Daniel Murphy - 2 hitter for Mets

Postby converge241 » Sun Mar 22, 2009 9:23 am

Great news for NL only and deeper leagues for his value!

possible upside for more value in all leagues as well:

Mets manager Jerry Manuel named Daniel Murphy his No. 2 hitter on Saturday.

Manuel likes Murphy's plate discipline, even though he's had less than 150 major league at-bats. "I'm confident that I can go out there and try to put a quality at-bat on them every time," said Murphy, who's hitting .364 this spring. Murphy is likely to be followed in the lineup by Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, David Wright, Ryan Church, Brian Schneider and Luis Castillo. Jose Reyes will lead off.
"I'm the man with the ball. I'm the man who can throw it faster than F***. So that's why I'm better than anyone in the world." - Kenny Powers

Thanks for the update, this is great info.

I'm surprised to see Wright listed 5th in the line-up... was thinking he'd be 4th.

I totally agree that Wright should bat clean-up. I feel the Mets best lineup is:
Reyes
Murphy
Beltran
Wright
Delgado
Church
Castillo
Schneider
P

The Mets are notorious for changing their lineup several times during the year, but I would not be surprised if it ends like this.

Grabbed him at the end of my 12-team keeper auction for $1 today. Nobody else bid, it was toward the very end of the thing... not sure if most people either hadn't heard the news or weren't convinced that he's gonna stick. Definitely worth finding out for $1 and his numbers last year and from the minors look pretty good to me!

I would rather see Wright hit 3rd with cleanup-5th being Beltran-Delgado vs lefties and Delgado-Beltran vs righties. You could even see Wright dropped to 5th vs. righties. Who knows. As Mets fan I'd like to see Wright higher in the order but as a Delgado owner I'd love him hitting in front of Wright or Beltran. I believe the most common order last year was Wright, Delgado, Beltran.

My preferred line-up:
Reyes
Beltran
Wright
Delgado
Church
Murphy
Schneider
Castillo
Johan

I want my best hitters w/ the most ABs at the end of the year.

I agree Wright, with his average and speed should be hitting 3rd not 4th. But I think you want a guy in that 2nd spot that you are willing to sacrifice in order to move Reyes over. Of course that doesn't happen everytime through the lineup but managers seem to set up their lineups as though it does. Also, wouldn't it be nice if Johan was the starter every day?
