C. Davis/Hoffman for Haren/Carmona

Postby pelvis_kick » Sat Mar 21, 2009 4:05 am

Here is the deal. I have 4 closers, BS is a category along with Saves. It is a weekly 8-team head to head league. Keeper-style.

My team:
C - VMart
1b - AGon
2b - Kinsler
SS - Stephen Drew
3B - Davis
OF - Hamilton
OF - Manny
OF - BJ Upton
UT - David Ortiz
UT - Chipper Jones
BN - Corey Hart
BN - Weiters
BN - Milledge
BN - Jay Bruce
BN - Felipe Lopez

SP - Bills
SP - Kazmir
RP - Morrow
RP - Joba Chamberlain
P - Edinson Volquez
P - Erik Bedard
P - Zach Greinke
BN - Oliver Perez
BN - Matt Capps
BN - Chad Qualls
BN - Matt Lindstrom
BN - Trevor Hoffman

I don't really care for Carmona, but I really like Haren. As said, too many closers.
What do you think?

To me, Carmona is worthless in the deal. You do have the bats on the bench plus Chipper to make Davis expendable, but I dont feel like you have too many closers. I think that Lindstrom and Qualls are anything but secure in their jobs. Hoffman is secure as long as he stays healthy.

I would counter with Davis and Lindstrom (or Qualls) for Haren.

I wouldn't do it personally. I think Carmona is worthless in an 8 teamer, and having a solid number of closers means you aren't scrambling if someone loses their job. Sure, Haren is the best player in the deal, but I think your arms are more then adequate. I really like how Greinke came on last year, and think Bedard bounces back in a big way. I think Bills will prove to be an adequate ace. If you really want Haren, I'd try and move Chipper and Volquez for Haren and a player. I really think Volquez comes back to earth some and his walks catch up with him. You do have bat depth, so you could afford to deal oft injured Chipper. Just another line of thinking. Good luck. If you have a second, I'd appreciate some help with my question.

The only reason I feel like I have too many closers is because BS is a category. If I just get one BS and beat the other guy by a handful of saves we just split. However, as long as I have like 2 closers I can get a few saves just to at least keep the other guy honest and split myself, or at least tie in BS.
