Picking 5th - 12 team head to head - 6x6

Postby Thebaseball2001 » Fri Mar 20, 2009 10:48 pm

Hey all,

I have the 5th pick in a 12 team league with the following categories:
Hitting: R,RBI,HR,SB,OBP,SLG
Pitching: W,ERA,S,WHIP,K/9,K/Walk

I believe from what I have been told by other GM's in the league that the first four picks will go like this:

1. Hanley
2. Pujols
3. Wright
4. Sizemore

So in a league that includes OBP and SLG would you take Reyes at number 5? I am leaning toward Miggy Cabrera but position scarcity is making me think twice about Reyes and Utley.

That early in the 1st round, I don't want to focus too much on positions but rather best player available. At the same time, Utley at 5 can thrive in a league with settings like ours (power). Reyes not so much but SS is so weak and Reyes is still a big Run and SP producer with these league settings.

Thanks

I would honestly go Braun or Reyes.

I don't know much about those type of catagories in a league though.

Hey if you could help me go to page #2 of this topic.

My quick and dirty projections for an OBP and SLG league:

1) Albert Pujols
2) Hanley Ramirez
3) David Wright
4) Ryan Braun
5) Jose Reyes
6) Ryan Howard
7) Grady Sizemore
8) Lance Berkman
9) Prince Fileder
10) Carlos Beltran
11) Alfonso Soriano
12) Chase Utley
13) Miguel Cabrera
14) Alex Rodriguez
15) Manny Ramirez
16) Garrett Atkins
17) Mark Teixeira
18) Joey Votto
19) Jay Bruce
20) Jason Bay
21) Ian Kinsler
22) Aramis Ramirez
23) Jimmy Rollins
24) Corey Hart
25) Nate McLouth
26) Matt Holliday
27) Dan Uggla
28) Nick Markakis
29) Adam Dunn
30) Chris Young

Some neat ones on there (Votto at #18 can probably be drafted much later). These are very bare bones, though (I value HR at 3x R and RBI, and SB at 2x R and RBI, and OBP and SLG over baselines x plate appearances, etc.).

(Chipper Jones was #10, but I kicked him off due to injury concerns).

True, failure on my part - my ARod projections include a 'replacement level' fantasy player in his lost time. Difference is, ARod's lost time is easier to predict. Chipper's in and out so often that you really need to pair him with a second 3B at all times.
