I need a Catcher bad, can you help?

Postby Newkie » Fri Mar 20, 2009 9:44 pm

I have Mauer as my catcher and I need someone to replace him with until he gets healthy. If someone knows something that I dont know, please let me know. I heard he is not doing as well as expected, and will not be ready for the start of the season. Besides, he will be rusty when he does get back.
I am in a H2H keeper league, and would like to pick up a player from the list below, or a sleeper you can direct me to. I am interested in trading for Pablo Sandoval, but dont know if that is a good move or not? If so, what would be a good offer to get him. Heres my team as we just drafted a couple of nights ago. If you you could help me pick between the catchers available and/or an offer to get Sandoval.
Thanks

From the list, I'd narrow it down to:

Shoppach, Flores, Saltalamacchia, and Snyder...is John Baker available?

I'd probably say for your purposes, you need someone who is going to be starting regularly early on. That narrows the list to Flores, Snyder and Baker. Go with Flores, unless Baker is available. As you can see, I've grown fond of Baker ...

RF-Hawpe
UT-Willingham, Hairston

If you are just looking for a quick patch until mauer gets his back sorted out, I think going with a regular with a consistent role is best for your team. Flores has been injured and hasnt done much this spring as far as tuning up. I'd just roll with pierzynsky who is pretty stable and consistent. Nothing flashy just a patch.

Yes John Baker is available. I might just put a patch on catcher right now, but it is always nice to find a good prospect or rookie of the yr candidate to help me make trades. One of the reasons I like Sandoval is I would be able to plug him in to a few different positions and just keep him as my IF unless needed elsewhere?
Yes Pierzynski is available, but for some reason, I just dont like that dude. It could be that he plays for my most hated team?

Thanks

Im in your same boat :-{ and i have to agree with others, just get a conistent starter who has little competition for the starting spot and start him. I got lucky and Dioner Navarro was left undrafted ;-D

Who would you drop of the players on my roster to make room for that extra catcher? Thats one of the reasons I am trying to trade for Sandoval and move either Andrus or one of my lower ranked OF's like Bradley, Young or Franceor. So far, that manager didnt want to trade Sandoval for Andrus. Would you? So who do I offer that isnt giving up too much?

Thanks
