Is it too early to take Wieters here? WHIR

Postby Burt » Fri Mar 20, 2009 6:08 pm

H2H, 5x5, 15-player keeper league.

in the 3rd round at the moment (essentially the 18th round counting the 15 keepers). Right now, my team looks like this:

1B Pujols, Morneau
2B Utley, Alexei Ramirez (SS)
3B Longoria
SS Hardy
OF Braun, Holliday, Crawford, Pence, Bruce
C V Martinez
SP Lincecum, Kazmir, E Santana, Nolasco, Price

Best players available are:

3B Encarnacion, Beltre
OF Wells, Ethier, Cruz
SP Verlander, Myers, Vazquez, Kershaw, Scherzer, Bedard, Baker, Chamberlain, Burnett
C Wieters

I could use some pitching, but Wieters has the most upside of any of these guys, especially for a keeper league. If I dont take him now, he wont make it back to me as there are 2 other guys who are without a catcher that pick before my next pick. So should I take him now? There are only 9 more picks before my next one, so at least one of those pitchers will still be available.

Thoughts?

With Mauer missing the start of the season, make that 3 teams without a catcher.

Do you really trust Victor Fart-inez? Me neither. Absolutely pick Wieters here.

I also have martinez and am anticipating a better year at the plate. I did take Wieters because i think he will tear it up once he spends a little time in AAA. I have Burnett also. Im hoping he is a huge surprise this year, but ya never know. good luck!

I take Wieters with one caveat....Kershaw looks darn good here, too, and I'm surprised he wasn't a keeper or taken before.

Still, Wieters is the pick.

I think anyone could have a better year at the plate than Victors 08. He's still a good stopgap, but taking him way ahead of other better options like Iannetta is silly.

I didnt have room to keep him. I had to turn him, Volquez and Scherzer loose. Had a pretty stacked team.

Iannetta was taken about 10 picks earlier.

I say take him... And I DO trust V-Mart... Just traded for him... See http://www.fantasybaseballcafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=372755 when you get a chance.

Wieters is for real... And, when he comes up, V-Mart might very well have dual eligibility, making him potentially easier to trade.
Thank you to soty for hooking me up with another awesome sig!
