Meche, Maholm, Marmol, Francisco

Postby yanks23 » Fri Mar 20, 2009 5:26 pm

10 team mixed auction league. Pitching categories are W, K, Sv, ERA, WHIP

I have decided on 5 of my 6 keepers - Teixeira ($25), Kemp ($3), Quentin ($3), J Shields ($10), and Liriano ($13). Need to choose one more from list of Meche ($3), Meche ($3), Marmol ($3), and Francisco ($6).

Marmol was a no-brainer before it became apparent that Gregg is likely to win the closer role. Don't want to spend a keeper spot on a likely middle reliever. Francisco is intriguing as well, but I'm leaning toward Meche or Maholm now as both are very solid and dirt cheap starters. Any advice on who from this list of 4 you would keep would be greatly appreciated.

Meche for sure, he should get you more Ks and maybe a couple more wins compared to Maholm.

That's where I'm leaning, but Maholm may have a lower WHIP. Anyone else? Have to decide by tomorrow.

Marmol, best pitcher of bunch by a lot. He will close at some point.

That's what I was thinking too Hootie, but what do you think the chances are that he starts the year as the closer?

if its between Meche and Mahom id take Meche. he has been pretty consistant the last 2 seasons. mid-high 3 ERA, WHIP into the 1.3's, good K. Maholm was decent in 08, but dont forget what he did in 07/06.
Meche did deal with a back issue early in the spring, so thats something to consider.
i still think it might be better to take Marmol. Gregg might want to close, but Marmol is the better option in Chicago.

Another option for me would be to keep another hitter. Some hitters are: Bradley ($3), A Gonzalez ($17), Lowrie ($3), C Guillen ($15), Crawford ($32). Do any of these make sense or should I stick with Marmol?

One more pitching option is Josh Johnson at $3

I'd keep Josh Johnson at $3, or Marmol. Even Bradley at $3 is reasonable.
