Help with offline 15-team draft.

Postby javcovelite » Thu Mar 19, 2009 9:29 pm

This is an ongoing draft and may last until the season starts, but I would appreciate some thought on my next pick.

I have the 69th pick. (seriously) I won't have another pick until pick number 81. 15-team h2h most catagories keeper league. 30 man rosters and I can only have one player from each MLB team.

My team now is:

C-Brian McCann
SS-Jose Reyes
OF-Grady Sizemore
OF-Matt Kemp

Right now I am thinking of drafting John lackey or James Shields and then draft Alexei Ramirez(if he is there). I'm not really sure. Or go bats again and draft Adrian Gonzalez and Alexei Ramirez?

Top 15 players available to me are:

OF-Alex Rios TOR
OF-Vladimir Guerrero LAA
SP-John Lackey LAA
OF-Curtis Granderson DET
RP-Jonathon Papelbon BOS
SP-James Shields TB
1B-Derrek Lee CHC
RP-Joe Nathan MIN
1B-Adrian Gonzalez SD
RP-Mariano Rivera NYY
2B-Alexei Ramirez CWS
OF-Corey Hart MIL
3B-Chris Davis TEX
OF-Carlos Quentin CWS
RP-Joakim Soria KC

Players I expect to be drafted outside of the 15 before I draft again are Yovanni Gallardo, Carlos Pena, Joey Votto.

I'd say get Ramirez if you can. 2B is the weakest position and he could be a 20/20 guy. Plus who else besides Quentin would you want on that team?? Thats who I would shoot for. Pitchers are nice but deals can be foundin laterrounds due to the depth at that position. Try and get Votto if you can, he is gonna have a nice year in Cincy this year and can be had in the later rounds.

I was thinking that too. Especially considering the fact that Cano and Dan Uggla are both taken. With how this draft has been going Shields or Lackey might be there 12 picks from now. Thanks and if you have a question about one of your teams feel free to direct me to the topic.

Carlos Quentin should be your pick ahead of Lackey and Shields. then go with a pitcher or 2B like Cano.

Thanks for the help. I'd JUMP to get Quentin, even though your OF is already off to a great start. Then go with Ramirez. To me, the difference between Lackey/Shields, and the guy you'd get in the next set of picks isn't nearly as great as the difference between Quentin and Ramirez, and their potential replacements in the next set of picks.

Thanks to everyone, I probably will be back at pick 81. I went with Ramirez because I already had two outfielders and most all of the best 2B were gone(Utley, Pedroia, Phillips, Kinsler, Uggla, Cano) I can't draft Quentin next because of the rule of having one player from each team.

Totally rolled right over that rule... Seeing that, I might see if you can take Gonzalez with your next pick. Assuming Peavy is already gone, there's only really two other Padres you'd actively want to have - A.Gon, and, of course, CHRIS YOUNG! :)

I actually see Granderson having a great bounce back season, and I worry about Quentin's injury history a bit. That said, I do agree that if you like Quentin grab him now and worry about SP in the next pick or two.

People are drafting crazily in this league. I'm only four spots away from my next pick(won't be until tomorrow), and the players that have been chosen off the top of my head were Russel Martin, Pat Burrell, Mariano Rivera, Kerry Wood, Josh Beckett, Shane Victorino, Carlos Delgado. I still will probably be able to get my choice of Joey Votto, Adrian Gonzalez, James Shields, John Lackey, Curtis Granderson, or whoever. At this rate I will probably end up with two of those players.

Nevermind, my league actually managed two rounds tonight. I have the 81st pick.

My team is now:
C-Brian McCann
2B-Alexei Ramirez
SS-Jose Reyes
OF-Matt Kemp
OF-Grady Sizemore

Top 15 players available to me are now:

OF-Alex Rios TOR
OF-Vladimir Guerrero LAA
SP-John Lackey LAA
OF-Curtis Granderson DET
RP-Jonathon Papelbon BOS
SP-James Shields TB
1B-Derrek Lee CHC
RP-Joe Nathan MIN
1B-Adrian Gonzalez SD
OF-Corey Hart MIL
3B-Chris Davis TEX
RP-Joakim Soria KC
1B-Carlos Pena TB
RP-Brad Lidge PHI
OF-Hunter Pence HOU

Other players I'm interested in are Joey Votto, Yovanni Gallardo, Garret Atkins, Jay Bruce, Zack Greinke

I'm thinking James Shields or John Lackey. Or should I go Adrian Gonzalez and get SD and 1B out of the way?
