H2H league Draft Strategy 10 team 9th pick

Hey guys,

Just wondering what your draft strategy would be in a 10 man league that does head to head. Its a straight draft that snakes. I have picks #9 and #12.

We score the following categories with the following roster slots:

Batters
AVG
OPS
R
HR
RBI
SB

Pitchers
ERA
WHIP
W
QS (quality starts)
K
SV/HD (saves plus holds)

1 C
1 1B
1 2B
1 SS
1 3B
1 IF
1 RF
1 CF
1 LF
1 OF
1 DH
1 UTIL

4 SP
3 RP
2 P

According to the rankings for MDP that puts me with ARod and Teixeira. Would you take those guys with 9 and 12? What kind of strategy would you approach with the draft.

Oh and just to note, We are doing an ESPN draft, using their draft client. I have a feeling most of the guys will be using that pick order, maybe slightly modified. We have Nationals fans and Orioles fans.

No way don't take ARod! He is 4th round at best at this point. The injury is a serious detriment to his value.

I am going to assume Hanram, Wright, Pujols, MCab, Reyes are definitely off the board. I am not familiar with ESPNs rankings, but I assume after that it is the three top tier outfielders: Hamilton Braun and Sizemore (in no particular order). If Sizemore falls to you, I would take him with the 9th pick. If not, consider Kinsler (might be too high for him) or Utley.

Where is Utley currently preranked? I feel like he has been much lower (lower as in not as well ranked) on the list than he should be. And since you say these guys will probably draft mostly with the rankings, you might want to take a gamble on waiting for the 12th overall to take him.

Otherwise I would definitely take Utley with the board cleared (I would also take him over Braun or Hamilton). Kinsler would probably be my next choice after Braun and Hamilton, followed, MAYBE by Rollins.

Just some thoughts to ponder... good luck

yeah i wasn't considering taking Arod.

I like your idea of taking Utley. I am the resident Phils fan of the group. Last year i managed to get Utley 1st pick, Rollins 2nd pick, and i traded for Howard for the second half of the season.

I think i'll hope to let Utley drop to 12 and pick him up there. If Sizemore drops to 9 i'll definitely pick him up too. this is the first year we are doing Quality starts, but what about Santana for pick #9? He'd contribute to K, ERA, WHIP, QS, and W. Thats 5 of 6 categories for our pitching. He had a lot of QS last year, and now his bullpen should be able to turn those QS into wins for him.

I dont really like taking pitchers early but this might have enough upside, what do you think?
