Keeper draft help with # 1 overall pick-Draft Sunday!

Postby jnormy » Thu Mar 19, 2009 11:33 am

OK, this is an 18-team keeper league, points scoring, and I just traded for the #1 overall pick in the draft. Players are kept using a formula according to the player's previous year's draft round, so many of the top guys are already being kept. Here are the players I might consider for that top slot, and would appreciate any opinions on who's the best pick for me. (Since Pujols is my own #1, this pick would essentially be a one-year rental, so THIS year's performance is key, not the future.) My roster of keepers is at bottom, and I have four other picks, in rounds 5, 6, 9, and 11. I'm leaning toward Manny even tho' that gives me 3 offensive players from the Dodgers; any reason to pick someone else? Thanks, and will help U 2.

The choices:
Manny Ramirez
Vlad Guerrero
Adam Dunn
Carlos Delgado
Jason Giambi
Erik Bedard
A.J. Burnett

Points system values sluggers over speedsters, and pitching purely performance-based (no pts. for saves):
Batting: AB -1 H +1 TB +1 RBI +1 R +1 BB +1 SB +1 CS -1
Pitching: APP -1 GS -4 IP +4 W +1 H -1 R -2 ER -2 BB -1 K +1

ROSTER SO FAR:
C K.Shoppach (Cle-C)
1B A. Pujols (StL-1B)
2B R. Weeks (Mil-2B)
3B C. Figgins (LAA-3B,2B)
SS R. Furcal (LAD-SS)
OF R. Soriano (Chi-OF)
OF A. Ethier (LAD-OF)
OF J. Bruce (Cin-OF)
UT An. LaRoche (Pit-3B)
BN C. Gomez (Min - OF)

SP J. Peavy (SD-SP)
SP D. Matsuzaka (Bos-SP)
SP J. Johnson (Fla-SP)
SP E. Santana (LAA-SP)
SP S. Gallagher (Oak-SP)
RP B. Morrow (Sea-SP,RP)
RP J. Broxton (LAD-RP)
RP C. Villanueva (Mil-SP,RP)

Minors
R. Porcello (Det-SP)
C. Triunfel (Sea-SS)
L. Morrison (Fla-1B

Definitely Manny. It looks like your team is a little more geared for speed than power right now, and Manny would be the perfect fit to even things up.

Also I think he will have a flat out better year than Vlad, Delgado, etc etc

Good luck!

Yeah I would love it if Andy LaRoche started hitting with some power (classic post-hype sleeper?) so I could plug him in at third and have Figgins or Weeks as my 2B options. I was wondering how a healthy Vlad would hit this year, but it's def. looking like Manny's the best choice here. I just hope he's motivated enough. :-o
