Need Advice.. Auction prior to start of season

Postby Chrisjhab » Wed Mar 18, 2009 11:09 pm

Hi my NL only 4x4 league auction is March 29th this year... one week prior to the season... Rosterswill not be finalized.... What is the best way to decide who can be picked in the minor league draft and who can be bought in an auction.

Example.... Tommy Hanson will most likely be with the Braves on 3/29 but could be sent to the minors by 4/5... Should he be considered for the rookie draft or for the MLB auction?

Thanks for any advice...

our league always has its auction before the season starts and we simply say that IF a player has not been sent down at the time of the auction then he is eligible to be ifs, ands or buts..if there hasnt been a transaction sending a player to the minors then he is UP

I would allow any player to be purchased in the regular draft. If someone wants to allocate a regular bench spot to hold someone they expect to be called up, I don't see why you'd try to restrict htat.

The minor-league draft is more problematic.
0-3 to 4-3. Worst choke in the history of baseball. Enough said.

Our league seems to have the auction every year before the season starts, just schedules easier that way. So, we use the same rule that scott does. If they are still with the major league camp, they are eligible. If they aren't, don't even think of getting them. Then since the 25 man rosters are released a week or so later, then we just let whomever got some one who didn't make the team, replace them for the same salary with a player who did make the team. Hope that helps.
