I have # 1 Waiver Priority....any of these worth it?

Postby 4Pack » Wed Mar 18, 2009 7:23 pm

Yahoo 10 Team H2H. Today the lst round of drops were made and a few interesting players were let go including...

C - Victor Martinez and Matt Weiters
OF - Chris Young, Nelson Cruz, Justin Upton, Conor Jackson

Is either of those worth burning the # 1 waiver on? Below is my roster. BTW..I am punting saves since the commish also put in a blown save category...and I figured the WORST I could do is go 0-1-1 on a given week. Other than that it is a standard 5X5 for the most part...

C - Chris Iannetta
1B - Adrian Gonzalez
2B - Chase Utley
3B - Aramis Ramirez
SS - Mike Aviles
OF - Carlos Quentin
OF - Bobby Abreu
OF - Hideki Matsui
UT - Joey Votto

SP - TIm Lincecum
SP - Chad Billingsley
SP - Josh Beckett
SP - John Lackey
'SP - James Shields
SP - Zack Greinke
SP - Kevin Slowey
SP - Aaron Harang
SP - Scott Baker
SP - Josh Johnson
SP - Gil Meche

drop a pitcher or TWO and pick up VMART for sure, and wow are these guys nuts?

cruz, weiters, and upton could be huge

conor jackson is nothing impressive but he's solid, id' probably rather have him than matsui, byoung is tough to swallow because of the average, but if i were you i'd burn it.... maybe even try and get two of these guys, you have way too much pitching IMO, but i dont know your stat settings....

Well...one of the pitchng categories is PC (pitch count). Dumb category if you ask me ....but since I am punting saves and blown saves...I want to be certain I win the PC category most every week (along with W's. K's, and hoefully ERA/WHIP). That is the reason I drafted so many top SP's.

Pick up Upton for Matsui, and maybe drop Slowey for Wieters. Both youngsters could be set for monster seasons. I'm not big on V-Mart since his power disappeared; Iannetta is solid enough that I would gamble on the super-prospect instead.

I would drop Ianetta for Victor

AND probably would do 2nd waiver claim Meche for Weiters..i like meche every year very underrated but hes your worst pitcher in comparison I think

with victor in the fold you can wait for weiters then when weiters comes up you can trade him, or trade victor even for some more help

it wouldnt even be that crazy to do meche for weiters period and play ianetta until weiters is set to go and safe to start

1st- V-Mart
2nd- Upton

I would try to get them both. They are both upgrades for you. Even if you miss out on Upton, I would get C Young. He is better than Matsui.

Agreed on VMart then Upton... Drop Ianetta and Matsui. One could be tempted on losing a Meche for Weiters. It wouldn't pay off til a little later, but I like the first two for sure.

Helping hand for me?

Drop Meche before Iannetta. Once both your catchers blow up and grow into full grown man beasts you can deal one for much more value than meche would bring. Agree with others Matsui/Upton

Most definitely pick up Martinez and Upton. Possibly Cruz too if you want more OF depth. You have a lot of pitchers and can afford to drop one of them for any one of those guys. If you have both V-Mart and Iannetta you can use one of them as trade bait later on in the season for someone else you might have a need for at that time. But go after V-Mart and Upton first, and if you can't get Upton then go after Nelson Cruz, he's a big time sleeper this year IMO.
