Ish-tar?

Postby Robert1977 » Wed Mar 18, 2009 1:25 am

I just made a trade for Travis Ishikawa ($1) in my 12-team NL-only. I plan to plug him into my CI on my keeper list. I've been searching everywhere, but I cannot find projections for him that include 450-plus at-bats. I know the projections were done before it appeared that he had locked up the 1B job in San Francisco.

With that said, what are your projections for him? Am I crazy to think his upside this season could be 55-15-55 with a .275 AVG? I figure for $1, he's worth the chance. Thoughts?

I think that your prediction is optimistic, yet achievable. Ishikawa is most likely going to be given every chance to play everyday...I personally think he is much better than Bowker, and hopefully Aurilia will only be a pinch hitter. We all know the Giants lineup is going to be weak, but he will probably be somewhere in the middle of it, and should be able to put up at least 55 runs and rbis if he keeps the starting job. Overall, not a bad flier to take for $1.

For a buck, he's definitely worth a flier. He has decent enough upside. I think the idea was to platoon him at first because he can't hit lefties, but given that the Giants don't really have much better options, he's probably going over 500ABs this season. He's not a big power hitter and that ballpark won't help him in that department, but I think he's capable of hitting closer to .300 than to .275. The thing with Ishikawa is that all the ups and downs in his career so far makes me wonder which Ishikawa will show up this year.
