Catchers- need sleepers

Postby Moss84 » Tue Mar 17, 2009 9:51 pm

12 team h2h Auction mixed keeper league, 5x5 Scoring.

Salary Cap is $1000 and draft 25 players (2 at each Infield, 5 OF, 8 Starters, 2 closers).
Start (each week) - 1 C, 1b,2b, SS, 3b, 3 of, dh- any hitter, 5 pitchers, 1 closer

Mauer is only top catcher that is available for auction went for $70 last year -- not sure what his value should be this year - might be inflated despite the injuries.

McCann, Soto, Doumit, Martin, V-mart, Iannetta have all been kept.

I'm looking for Catchers that are sleepers and could finish in top 7-8 for the season.

Napoli - shoulder injury but might also DH
Bengie Molina (34 but hits cleanup) - Sandoval steal starts ??
Wieters- probably overvalued ?
Ramon Hernandez - homer friendly stadium with Reds
Saltalamchia -- alot of competition with teagarden, max ramirez)
Varitek
Posada

I target Ramon Hernandez alot this year. He's still got power left and moving to GABP is a bonus. Posada should also bounceback as he's going to be healthier. Wieters and Sandoval should outperform those 2 but they aren't sleepers at all.

You want Wieters and Sandoval, but if you can't get to those two then Jeff Clement would be a very good choice. He's got a nice power bat for a catcher and will see some time at DH, which is a good thing for his legs.

For a deeper sleeper, look at John Baker (FLA). Won't hit for too much power, but he put up .299 avg w/ 5 HR and 32 R, 32 RBI in 200 ab. Could be had cheap.

Im pretty sure Sandoval is playing third this year, and molina should be the Clear #1 catcher, But i still like Wieters and Sandoval (just dont expect Sandoval to keep his C status for next season) maybe im wrong but im pretty sure Sandoval isnt playin catcher, might want to monitor that ;-D

Sandoval will be playing 3rd base full time for Giants. Qualifies at C in Yahoo. Will spell Molina on occasion at C possibly.

Sandoval doesn't qualify for Catcher in my league because he didn't play 20 games there in 2008.

Any other suggestions -- I'm not sure how reliable Posada will be based on age/injuries. -- but the pickings are slim.

Who is the best Texas catcher to own if any ?

Who are your next THREE considering most top options are kept in my league

Ramon Hernandez, I think he is gonna have a top 10 possibly 6 or 7. He will hit for power and will get some nice RBI opps. I plan on playing him in alot of leagues.

Wieters, Sandoval, Molina, Posada are probably the guys you should be thinking about (in that order).
