What date are keepers decided

Postby fernkes2 » Tue Mar 17, 2009 4:19 pm

Stating a new keeper league and writing a consitution... I was wondering what is a good date for other GM's to have there keepers chosen by....

DEC, JAN, FEB, MARCH????

What do you feel?
Or when does your league chose theres?

A dead line helps because of trading draft picks we need to know what picks are locked up... Thanks

1-2 weeks before the draft date usually works best for most (but really some leagues can be all over the place.. some set it right after season ends or the like)

One week before the draft.

It's more important to give the owners time to look at what's happening in spring training with their keepers than it is to give everyone else a month or two to figure out everything that's available. A week is plenty of time. Besides, most of the keepers are no-brainers so people figure it out anyways.

2 weeks before the draft. Enough time for people to make informed decisions based on health, playing time, etc. but also enough for people to plan accordingly for the draft. A week is cutting it too close IMO.

I agree with Trojan on 2 weeks before the draft. This gives owners enough time to analyze the draft pool and start to formulate a draft strategy.

Matthias said 1 week, and for someone like me that really gets into fantasy baseball that would be just fine. But even most super competitive leagues have a few people that are a bit more casual. Also if you allow 2 weeks, you give people that might just have a busy few days a chance to look things over still.

Let me caveat: it depends upon how deep your keepers go. If your keepers are impacted by the competition going on in ST, then I think the extra week for people to decide keepers is more valuable than the extra week for people to do their draft board and know exactly who all is kept.

But if your keepers are all going to be established major leaguers, then 2 weeks is fine.

I completely agree with this caveat. The more keepers you have, or if you have minor league rosters of some sort, the later you should try to set your cutdown date.
