huge trade offered need advice WHIR

Postby cranfire87 » Tue Mar 17, 2009 3:48 pm

I was offered a huge deal in my 12 team 5x5 keeper league. I get Josh Hamilton, Roy Oswalt, Stephen Drew, and Matt Wieters. I give Hunter Pence, Johan Santana, Jimmy Rollins, and Mark Reynolds.

The thing about this deal is that I will most likely then be able to trade Hamilton to another owner for Ryan Braun. Reynolds and Pence I don't really care about losing, and Wieters could put up huge numbers when he's called up, but is it worth it to give up Johan and Rollins?

Thanks for the help on mine. Breaking it down it essentially:

Hamilton/Braun and Oswalt for Pence and Santana
and
Drew and Wieters for Rollins and Reynolds

In the first part, I would the Hamilton - Oswalt side a slight edge. The problem with the second part is the value all depends on Wieters. His name comes with an inflated pseudo value. He won't live up to it this year, but should in the future. Who is Wieters replacing and who replaces Reynolds? The dropoff from Rollins to Drew really makes it hard for me to say yes to this. I'd probably have to turn it down. Or at least rearrange the pitchers being dealt and including Reynolds.

Wieters would probably replace Ianetta if I deal him or go in my UTIL spot for a while. If he gets hot I would probably deal him but I can see where youre coming from, theres no guarantee Wieters lives up to the hype and going from Rollins to Drew hurts my speed category a lot

I wouldn't do it. I think you are giving up too much by losing both Johan and Rollins. Plus, Wieters isn't even proven yet and I think I would have to wait and see what he does before I lose the offense of Rollins and the pitching of Johan.

thanks for your help with mine

its really a toss up to me. i think you potentially get the better deal a couple years from now in drew and wieters. but for this year and possibly next you are better off staying with what you have.

Rollins is why I say no here, well, that and you do have a nice catcher.

Even if Wieters breaks out immediately as a stud, Rollins is going to trump Drew for a while. Santana's still way ahead of Oswalt.
