Drop Griffey for...

Postby DukeVBall » Tue Mar 17, 2009 11:18 am

Fantasy league with 15 teams. 1800 innings to pitch. I think I drop Griffey for another SP... thoughts? Maybe I drop Griffey for a rotating SP (like if someone has a good matchup against the Pirates or Mariners)?

Notables on the ww:
Hitters: Inge, Crede, Rowland, Morales, Ross, Byrd, Melky, Feliz, Maybin (but I'd have to use #4 ww pick)
Pitchers: Bonderman, Bush, Willis, Samardzija, Wolf, Padilla, Wakefield, Olsen, Rauch, Blanton, Eveland, Lannan, Redding, Backe, Pinero, Wakefield, Shields

C: Posada
1B: A. Gonzalez
2B: Utley
SS: Rollins
3B: A. Ramirez
OF: Hamilton
OF: Markakis
OF: Abreu
UTIL: Huff

Bench: Matsui, Jeter, Cano, Helton, Kendall, Griffey

SP: Carpenter
SP: Oliver Perez
SP: Slowey
RP: Capps
RP: Wilson
P: M. Gonzalez
P: Hanrahan

Rotating SPs: Smoltz, Escobar, Penny, Arroyo

If that is James Shields, then grab him before somebody else does.

Bush and Wolf should both give you solid seasons.

Padilla is in a contract year, so he should be motivated, but just be aware that he is a nut.

Shields must be Scot, right?

I personally wouldn't waste your WW pick on any of those options. A month into the season there will be a 2009 version of Cliff Lee or Edison Volquez or Mike Mussina or Ricky Nolasco or Carlos Marmol, etc. Point being, if you want a SP there will be much more attractive options off the WW that become available. Save the #4 pick for that.

If you're looking for a bat, there will be a version of Carlos Quentin (maybe not that extreme) who catches fire and goes undrafted.

Sit tight is the best option here.

Good luck!

I think Griffey for Maybin in a 15 teamer is worth that waiver.

I'd not carry two catchers myself. I'd take a chance on Bonderman for Kendall.

That can't be James Shields?
