Hamels leaves camp to have elbow examined

Postby AllDay » Mon Mar 16, 2009 9:22 am

Uh-oh.

via Rotoworld

Cole Hamels has left Phillies camp and is flying to Philadelphia to have his sore elbow examined Tuesday by team doctors.

The Phillies were already taking things slow with Hamels this spring because he threw a career-high 227 1/3 innings last season before tossing another 35 frames in the playoffs. Hamels has a history of elbow problems, which makes this news especially concerning for the 25-year-old ace. Mar. 16 - 9:10 am et

Yeah I just heard the same news on 610 WIP. Here's hoping it's more of a precaution thing than OMG Cole Hamels is injured thing. GM Ruben Amaro Jr. from the rotoworld link:

"We do not think it is serious, at least at this time" Amaro said. "We thought it was important for Dr. Ciccotti to check him out and see if there is anything more serious than what we think it is. He'll decide once he sees him tomorrow morning if he needs to do any testing or any further testing. We did do a physical on him before we ended up finalizing the multiyear deal with him and felt comfortable with the diagnostics and such. But he's had a little persistent soreness and we want to be cautious about it and have him checked out."

*fingers crossed*

I'll bet it's just typical soreness since he threw his highest number of innings for the spring, but given his history they'll take every precaution possible. Well, at least that's what I'm hoping....
Can't worry about tomorrow's pain tonight.

I have my major auction this weekend and he is one of the few stud starters available (others will be kept). It would be nice to have inside information prior to the auction that he's GTG before the public all clear message goes out. Would be nice to get him at a discount ala Pujols last year. :-)
