I got pick #7 in a 10 team AL-Only Head to Head league. Not too thrilled about it. I'm guessing Sizemore, Teixeira, Sabathia, Hamilton, and Cabrera will definitely be gone before I pick.
That leaves guys like Morneau, Holliday, Kinsler, Pedroia, Quentin, Longoria, Bay, Upton, Youkilis, Ortiz, Markakis, Halladay etc. Obviously, they are ranked differently from person to person.
Who would you suggest going for with my 1st pick. How about in the 2nd round? Could really use the help. How early is too early to think about A-Rod in an AL-Only league?
League Scoring 1B - Singles 1 point 2B - Doubles 2 points 3B - Triples 3 points BB - Walks (Batters) 1 point CS - Caught Stealing 0 points HP - Hit by Pitch 1 point HR - Home Runs 4 points KO - Strikeouts (Batter) 0 points R - Runs 1 point RBI - Runs Batted In 1 point SB - Stolen Bases 2 points
Scoring for Pitching Categories BB - Walks (Batters) -.5 points CG - Complete Games 5 points ER - Earned Runs -1 point HA - Hits Allowed -.5 points INN - Innings 2 points K - Strikeouts (Pitcher) 1 point L - Losses 0 points S - Saves 10 points SO - Shutouts 5 points W - Wins 10 points
Given the scoring system, give me the best OPS guy of the bunch who has some ability to steal.
Given that, I would go Kinsler, Morneau, and Quentin in that order, but its close. All three have some injury risk, but Morneau has been the healthiest of the bunch recently. So, perhaps Morneau if you want to avoid be safer in terms of injury potential.
I would go with Longoria, Kinsler, or Holliday. Everyone is down on Holliday this year but I still think he will put up big numbers. But, you might be able to get him on the way back for your second pick since everyone is undervaluing him this season. I would probably pick Kinsler if he is available followed by Longoria and then target Holliday or even ARod in the second round as I believe that it isn't too early to look at him in an AL-only. He should only be out about 6 weeks and the baseball season is long. Especially if this is a keeper I would take ARod in the second or third round if he was available.
Kinsler then Longoria. Both 2nd and 3rd base are very thin in an AL league. Upton would be next best. I don't like Morneau there because you can get better power from Pena or Davis later in the draft.
i'm totally on board with longoria right here.. he's young adn could have a better season than last year.. which would make him unquestionably the best 3B in the AL (arod injured, suspended, roids, cheater, stupid)
after that grab the best OF left. holliday, markakis, quentin, upton. in that order if you ask me..
I think I would have to go with Kinsler, Longoria, Pedroia in that order for the first pick for the same reason dave knight gave concerning the shallowness of those positions. On the way back up the line in the second round i'd go with any of the outfielders you listed towards the end that are available. Of course, if someone leaves one of those picks you think won't still be there on the board, that changes everything. Good luck and thanks for the help on mine.
