Johan with the 4th pick in draft? WHIR

I have the 4th pick in the draft and am considering taking Santana with the 4th pick. I am in a 12 team 5x5 roto keeper league. Am I nuts to draft a starter this early. My roster will start with Pedroia, Broxton and Quentin.

I'd have to say no, but then again, I don't know who's all being kept in your league. I tend to draft a few battter first before I target an arm.

Yes, way too early for a SP. Grab the best player and get your SP's in the later rounds. Lots of good SP in the league this yr. Santana wouldnt be my pick anyways in a keeper league with younger arms out there.

Hard to say without knowing who's kept, who's available but I'd prefer to build on a solid offensive base and grab a solid starter a little later.

Who else is available? Keeping a closer and Pedroia your team is starting in a hole offensivly.

so you're starting in the 4th round? we started in the 3rd round in my money league today and johan went alllllll the way down to the turn in a 12 teamer, so he was taken early 4th round in that draft.... and that guy took him because he was autodrafting (missed his first couple picks)

I can say if you have the 4th pick and there's a big stick there, DO NOT TAKE JOHAN.... TOO MUCH SP LATE IN DRAFTS, IT WAS SICK IN MY DRAFT TODAY... which by the way help a brotha out and see what you think, maybe this will help you in your decision as well!

Can you throw out a list of the top 10-12 guys that are going to be available? That will make this quite a bit easier to sift through.

I don't have a problem picking Johan that early if he's the best player available. I personally put him in my top 10 - 12 overall. I agree there is "a lot of pitching" available late, but it's a lot of mediocrity if you ask me and becomes kind of a crapshoot.
