Keeper Question

Postby Timgeorge2 » Sun Mar 15, 2009 1:55 pm

I have to set my keepers today. I had made up my mind to just keep 7 guys this year, even though we can keep 9. This is a 13 team roto league...no bench...we start 2 at every position and 5 OF. I have 7 really strong keepers and then some fringe players. Here's what I have...

Tim Lincecum
Cole Hamels
Jimmy Rollins
Matt Holliday
Matt Kemp
Ryan Howard
Miguel Cabrera

After that, I have Broxton and Doumit and I'm struggling with my decision. I'd have to give up my 8th and 9th round picks to keep Broxton and Doumit...which is really close to their ADP....maybe a little better than their ADP when you factor in the 13 teams. Should I keep these 2 and start drafting in the 10th or drop them and start the draft in the 8th round? It's impossible to know who I can expect to be there when it's my turn to pick. Any help is appreciated...just trying to get some dialogue going really.

I would give some consideration to Broxton and no consideration to Doumit. Without knowing your league, I think that you'll probably be able to get a better player than Broxton in the 8th round especially if most teams keep 9 players.

Everyone starts 9 pitchers...there's no bench so I always want alot of stability with my pitching staff since you can't bench a guy. Saves are pretty important.

I would guess that Martin, McCann, Soto, and Mauer will be kept. I never know how many teams will keep 9, but I do know that one team will keep zero. It's really tough to guage. If I don't keep Broxton, there's a good chance that I could redraft him or another closer in the draft. It's a tough call though.

I'm leaning towards keeping both guys...that way I know what I'm getting.

Keep Broxton, I wouldn't deal with Doumit because of injury risk. Someone may not be keeping Iannetta, or you can settle for Sandoval. (Wieters may or may not be there depending on your league)

I really like Broxton, but if I don't keep him, there's a good chance that I could draft him in the 8th round or at least a comparable closer in that spot. I think I've talked myself into just keeping 7 guys and then seeing what I can do with the 8th and 9th round picks. There's a chance I could draft guys better than Doumit and Broxton, and there's a chance that someone else takes them and I end up having to take inferior talent.

I really can't make up my mind. X-I

I hummed and ho-ed on Broxton, but I give both pink slips. You can get him back if you really wanted.. or as you said something comparable.
