A Little Worried About My Closers...WHIR

Postby Doughhead » Sat Mar 14, 2009 8:27 pm

It might sound strange to be worried about my closers when I have Papelbon and Mo Rivera, but I am. In this shallow (8-team) league most guys have at least three closers and I was hoping to have four. After Paps and Mo I took Marmol as my third and thought I was in great shape (I wasn't fully aware of how serious a threat Gregg poses to the closer job). Then I missed out on a run of closers and therefore ended up with only three. I picked up Gregg as a FA after the draft, but I'm seriously thinking about dropping him to pick up Pablo Sandoval as a super-sub.

So basically I wanted to have four solid closers and could end up with just two. I know closer jobs always open up during the season, but I don't really want to wait until June to have this sorted out. Am I overreacting?

I usually don't worry about closer situations too much. You could likely even trade Cruz for one.

I would put Cruz, Zambrano, or Bedard in a offer for a closer. Lou likes Greggs experience, so i wouldn't cut Gregg, who i think breaks as the closer.

Thanks for input on mine.

In an 8 team league I would not worry about a closers at all. There are always a handful of waiver wire guys that end up being closer every year. Shore up your other areas.

I wouldn't make a move. You've got 3 closers and that is competitive. Keep an eye on the WW and closers will turn up.
