I don't see that as outrageous; to me he has about the same value as Soriano, or even Upton.

neither beltran nor soriano and upton should be taken in the first round of a 12 teamer

who is clearly better than Beltran after the top 8?

Hanley
Pujols
Reyes
Wright
Sizemore
Braun
M-Cab
Rollins

Doesn't Beltran fall in the same mold as Sizemore???????

I would take Howard before Beltran. There's also Utley and M. Cabrera.

What pick do you have?

If you have the 9th pick (since the question listed the top 8), you also have the 16th, right? Beltran's ADP/ranking on Yahoo is 18. You can probably get him with your 2nd pick.

I see a couple of options:
Utley - Beltran - AGon
Hamilton-Longoria-Phillips

People might say Teixeira, but AGon puts up the same numbers a couple of rounds later.
C-Baker
1B-Lee
2B-Roberts

CF-McCutchen

UT-Willingham, Hairston

SP-Lackey, Burnett
RP-Rivera, Wagner
P-Baker, Gregerson, Meche
BN-Motte

DL - Zimmerman, Volquez

I like Beltran, but I rank him as the 5th best outfielder in my 5x5 mixed league (Braun, Lee, Soriano, Sizemore over Beltran). I view him as a 2nd round option.

If you have faith that Beltran is the best player available then take him. People get too caught up in rankings. Personally I wouldn't take him before H-Ram, Pujols, Wright, Reyes, M-Cab, Braun, Sizemore, Hamilton, Howard, or Tex.

I agree. While I agree he could very well end up a first rounder based on his stats at the end of the year, there is a good chance he will be available for you in the 2nd round, unless you have Met homers in your league. However, if your fellow managers use fantasy magazines as their guides on draft day (Sporting News has him taken #21 overall in their mock, and Lindy's has him taken 25th in theirs) he will definitely be available!

I am targeting him with my second round pick (#17 overall); the only issue is that there is a huge Met fan with 2 picks between mine, so I doubt he will fall to me.

By the same token, it wouldn't be the end of the world if you took him there either. Go with your gut and instincts. ;-D
