Help with Keepers please

Postby SignGuy » Sat Mar 14, 2009 5:23 pm

14 Team 5x5 Mixed Roto . 2C CI MI 5 OF slots.

We keep 4-8 players. I would like to keep the maximum if feasible. The number next to each name is the round of the pick i would forfeit to retain the player. Waiver wire additions cost an 18th round pick, but for every additional FA kept costs a 17th rounder, then a 16th rounder and so on. I see no obvious bargains according to ADP's except for Hamilton at 7 and Wood at 19. Any help is greatly appreciated.

No one is worth keeping from the 4th round up so i will start at round 5.

Oswalt 5
Halladay 6
Hamilton 7
Billingsley 9
Lowell 10
Capps 11
Delgado 12
Butler 13
A Hill 14
R Johnson 16

I don't like killing the middle of your draft for Cantu, Rasmus, Garza, and Snider, but I still do it. Two of these guys are steals there in redrafts (Cantu and Garza) and the other two are top 10 prospects (And on some lists, top 5-7).

I hate not keeping Parra and Lind here, but Lind's k/bb ratio plummeted precipitously last year. If you take Lind's low price and slight risk, I turf Cantu.

Similarly, Parra's tough to leave out, but his IP jump from 07-08 is in the Verducci Effect range, and Garza's just better.

Devine doesn't make my list because he'd be what a 13th rounder thanks to the other 4 FAs I recommended keeping. That's too high. Or dead on. It doesn't seem like a tactical advantage anyways.

Love the value on some of these youngsters. I think Garza is a more dependable pitcher than Parra, so I lean towards protecting him even at a slightly higher cost. Lind is great for the tail end of the draft. Rasmus and Snider have bright futures.
