first pick

Postby Blueandorange » Sat Mar 14, 2009 1:50 pm

In a ten team, 5X5 is the first pick of the draft clearly Hanley Ramirez or is there a solid argument for Pujols?

I am picking #1 tonight, and I am leaning Ramirez. I want to make sure I am not getting swept up in a trend.

When I look at the stats, Pujols seems to have the edge in 4 out of 5. If this is the case, why is Ramirez almost universally picked #1?

Thanks

Hanley plays SS. SS is very thin compared to 1B. Also Hanley give you plenty of speed along with all of the other categories. With the first pick, by the time your next pick comes around there won't be any top tier SS's left, but at least one of Howard, Tex AGon, or Fielder should be around to fill 1B instead of Pujols. Go Hanley

I am leaning Hanley, and then hoping for some kind of mix from Pedrioa, Longoria, Fielder or a top OF on the turn. I'll have two picks in a row.

Any thoughts on taking Pujols #1, then looking for a mix from the above group and then targeting Alexi Ramirez or Mike Aviles later in the draft?

I am pretty sure that i will not be looking for a SP or a RP until much later.

Hanley is the right choice due to his SS position. Its thin.

Getting either a SS or 2b early in a draft always a good idea. Its not hype to draft Hanley first. He's that much better than all the other 2b and SS choices out there, including Reyes IMO.

Alexei at SS would represent good value, but I'd go with Hanley and then top 1b (if Tex is there).

I have the #1 pick too and have been pondering the same thing. I've decided to go with Hanley and worry about 1B later on. I highly doubt Howard or Tex will still be there for me at the turn, but I'm fine taking Berkman at that spot or waiting to grab someone like Votto or Pena farther down. That seems like a better plan than taking Pujols and scrambling to find a decent SS.

I'm kind of in the same boat if I may hijack this thread just a little. I am torn between taking Reyes or Pujols with the # 1 pick. But I also have the # 3 pick. Sizemore, Howard , Utley and Rollins are also avalible.
