Generally I prefer job security, that way you don't waste bench spots on potential closers. Better chance at finding a SP gem or position player gem by drafting quality RPs. However when cornered the quantity approach must be used, I guess to some extent. Or you can draft BPA and then trade for closers or find some on the wire, but you still need to draft somebody to close IMO. my bullpen is terrible right now with H. Bell, Hanrahan and Corpas at closer. But I think I can trade for one and maybe find one on the wire. Naturally I assume that at least one of my closers will tank.

Numbers are key, a bad RP who gets saves isn't really very valuable in the long run, a good RP who doesn't end up with saves is more valuable imo. They just help with more categories.

I generally do the traditional strategy of a strong closer, a middle tier option and then a flier or two. In deep leagues with 14-15 teams, I'll sometimes just draft one legitimate closer then take a couple fliers. To me, spending a middle round pick on a closer in a deep league is too expensive. I feel like I'm giving up too much on the hitting side or with my starting pitching. In a deep league, most teams will only have 1-2 legitimate closers anyway.
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike
