i agree with teh fact that fielder should not really be such a definate. it depends on ur otehr keeper options i guess but halladay and kemp are pretty damn good. lee is a great player but we know what his ceiling is. kemp is so young and still developing he has a much higher upside. go kemp and let a few other drafters laugh and then you will get the last laugh cleaning up teh pot.
I would go with Kemp. The Dodgers have a solid offense and with Manny protecting Kemp he will get plenty of good pitches. Kemp is young and gives you the speed you won't get from Lee.
Kemp '09 .290-.300 BA, 90 R, 25 HR, 90 RBI, 25 SB
I don't see Lee hitting 20 points higher than Kemp. Maybe 10.
Kemp will be close to Lee this year and soon pass him and is less of an injury risk.
I wouldn't lock Fielder in as a keeper yet, Kemp/Halladay are better.
Carlos Lee missed about the last 40 games of the year to a broken pinkie. When he went out he was absolutely beasting it and was going to put up the best offensive numbers of his career.
You can't compare Kemp's worth to Lee's last year because Kemp played in 40 more games and got 170 more AB's.
That being said I can see why you may want to take Kemp, but I think its a question of steals over power. Over the next 3 years I think Carlos Lee will put up better power numbers than Kemp, but Kemp is obviously going to give you those SB's.
This is a tough one, but I think I'd go with Lee here. Lee doesn't have the 5-cat potential Kemp does nor the youth advantage, but I also think he's one of the more solid power hitters out there. Remember he was on track for a career year last season had it not been for a fluky HBP on his hand last year. Lee is likely to have an OPS advantage, FWIW, as well. By the same token in a league like this, you don't want a Taveras/Gomez type dragging your OPS and so, it will help if you can target a Chone Figgins or Lastings Milledge type later either way.
Lee was on track for more than a career year, he was on track to be the #1 OF in baseball. He was on a 623 AB pace (his average the previous 3 years) to post a .314 AVG, 40 HR, 142 RBI, 87 runs, and 5 SB, which would easily make him the top OF overall, all without aberrant luck factors like BABIP or HR/FB. I love Kemp but Lee was CRAZY good last year.
