Five keepers are due this Sunday. My dilemma is whether to keep A-Rod. This year we have a new wrinkle -- the use of a DL slot. We can use it twice during the year. If I keep A-Rod, I can't invoke the DL slot until two weeks into the young season. No stats for two weeks -- early death or effective strategy?? With A-Rod, I would keep Jose Reyes, Josh Hamilton, Tim Lincecum, and Matt Kemp. If I toss A-Rod back, he'd likely get picked up by one of the (three) new teams without keepers ... and I'd replace him with either Prince Fielder or Alex Rios. Just looking for your thoughts. Thanks in advance.
I'm answering my own post becuase ya'll don't have the cahoonahs to make judgment and offer advice to a fellow owner. Maybe it seems apparant but I'd still liek to hear what would you do ... there must be several that own him and have to make the call, too. I really would like to get a feel from New Yorkers and Yankee fans about A-Rods prospects for being ready 5 weeks from now.
to be honest, id love to keep arod in any situation except for yours... you can't really DL him, and you have a valid keeper to replace him... id say toss him back and keep Fielder, thats just my feeling... ive owned arod like twice in many many years so he could be a huge lift, but i can see where your coming from losing his stats for those weeks could hurt in the long run... my pick is Fielder to slide in along side of your great group of Reyes, Hamilton, Lincecum and Kemp...
Toss him back and keep Fielder. Prince has better odds of turning out 30/100 seasons from here on out, since A-Roid is no spring chicken and the injuries are catching up to him.
1. He's a better keeper then Rios or Fielder. No one would argue that. 2. You lose 2 weeks of a replacement 3B. Let's say that 3B is a 25 hr, 80/80 run/rbi guy. You lose nothing in a rate stat average. You might lose only 1 sb, since 3B don't steal much. You will lose around 2 hrs, around 6 runs and 6 rbis. You going to cut Arod over that small loss? I wouldn't myself. Arod should only miss a month. For 2 weeks, you use a replacement 3B, which you would have anyways, had you kept Rios or Fielder. Make sense?

My 5 keepers were: Jose Reyes, Prince Fielder, Josh Hamilton, Tim Lincecum, and ARod. I just didn't want it to haunt me. But I struggled with keeping Matt Kemp and Alex Rios over Prince and Lincecum. But this is Mixed and there should be plenty of good stuff to grab over the course of the next 20 or so rounds. Thanks for all the input. Help in return coming right up.
