Keeper trade: My Heyward for Moustakas, Jackson & McGee

Postby jmlevy » Thu Mar 12, 2009 12:37 am

12 team H2H keeper, 14 MLB keepers in 2010, up to 8 rookie-eligible on farm, 7x7 with Hits, OPS, Holds & K/9

$ville Brave Balla$ MLB keepers:

1) Brian Roberts (Bal - 2B)
2) Alex Rodriguez (NYY - 3B)
3) Jimmy Rollins (Phi - SS)
4) Hunter Pence (Hou - OF)
5) Matt Holliday (Col - OF)
6) Justin Upton (ARI - OF)
7) CC Sabathia (Mil - SP)
8) Joba Chamberlain (NYY - SP,RP)
9) Yovani Gallardo (Mil - SP)
10) A.J. Burnett (Tor - SP)
11) Zack Greinke (KC - SP,RP)
12) Max Scherzer (ARI - SP,RP)

Farm club:
1. Jarrod Parker (SP - ARI) (0 IP)
2. Wade Davis (SP - TB) (0 IP)
3. Ross Detwiler (P - WAS) (1 IP)
4. Jason Heyward (OF/1B - ATL) (0 AB)

I have been offered the following trade:

I send: Jason Heyward

I receive: Mike Moustakas, Austin Jackson, and Jacob McGee

Would you make this trade? Heyward has a higher ceiling than the other three in my opinion, but obtaining the other three high-potential prospects certainly make this deal enticing. Would you possibly ask for Niemann, Sanchez, Ervin or Jered?

Other team's roster:
Batters:
Chris Iannetta (Col - C) Keeper
Justin Morneau (Min - 1B) Keeper
David Wright (NYM - 3B) Keeper
Delmon Young (Min - OF) Keeper
Jacoby Ellsbury (Bos - OF) Keeper
Ian Kinsler (Tex - 2B) Keeper

Pitchers:
Ervin Santana (LAA - SP) Keeper
Francisco Cordero (Cin - RP) Keeper
Jonathan Sánchez (SF - SP,RP) Keeper
Kyle Lohse (StL - SP) Keeper
Jered Weaver (LAA - SP) Keeper
Ben Sheets (Mil - SP) Keeper

Farm:
1. Cameron Maybin (OF - FLA) 81 AB
2. Jacob McGee (P - TB) 0 IP
3. Jeff Niemann (P - TB) 16 IP
4. Troy Patton (P - BAL) 12.2 IP
5. David Price (P - TB) 14 IP
6. Austin Jackson 0 AB
7. Mike Moustakas 0 AB

Well you have a pretty good core 14 right now, which makes me not care about getting the 2 other guys as much. Also I wonder if you'd keep the other two anyways. McGee could be converted to RP, as it wont be the easiest thing making the Rays rotation. Also I think it will take some time before Jackson puts up meaningful stats worth keeping him. Thus I'll go with keeping Heyward, better prospect/ceiling ... with just 12 teams you should hold onto the best guys.

I forgot to mention that in addition to the 14 MLB keepers, we are allowed to keep up to 8 rookie-eligible on our farm. This is a keeper that grows every year to become a dynasty 5 years down the road.

I am considering countering his offer with:

My Heyward, Detwiler and 3rd round prospect draft pick for his Moustakas, Jackson, and David Price

A) would this offer have any chance?
B) is this a deal you would consider making?

Thanks in advance for your help!

On the first trade, I would take Heyward. As for the second trade, it is much better but I wonder if he will accept.

Even with keeping 8 through rookie eligibility, thats still not much time so my opinion doesn't change much. On the 2nd offer well, good luck on him trading you Price alone for that ... not likely to happen.

the first offer, keep Heyward ;-D
I doubt you'd get him to move Price and Moust for Heyward and a pick, but it never hurts to ask.
