Aramis Ramirez or Kevin Youkilis ?

Postby shoelessjoetara » Wed Mar 11, 2009 10:59 pm

Who will have the better season this year? Was Youks power a fluke from last year. I say if he can hit 25 HR this year he will be more valuable because I don't think Aramis will have his normal 100 30 100 season this year.

Not sure why you don't think Aramis will produce...he's been consistently at or above a .900 ops for 5 straight years and he's not getting old by any means. I'm a Red Sox fan and I'd take Aramis over Youkilis.

I just went over to Hit Tracker. According to those guys, 17 of Youkilis' home runs were either "lucky" or "just enough"

Lucky, meaning it would not have been a home run if it were hit on a 70 degree, calm day, and just enough, meaning it cleared the fence by 10 feet or landed one fence height past the actual fence.

FULL DISCLOSURE...CUBS FAN HERE.

I'd take A-Ram over Youk in a second. Cubs led the league in Runs last year, and A-Ram is almost a lock for .290, 30 HR, 100 RBI, where I need another year out of Youk before I'm a believer.

Ramirez hasn't hit 30 HRs either of the last 2 years and his power is trending down while his health and batting eye trend up would be the first reason. Ramirez is unlikely to hit 30 HR. He's also never had 100 Rs and only broke 85 three times and never two years in a row, so I don't find that to be a lock either. He's only hit .300 or more 4 times and one of those was .300 on the dot and one was .302.

Ramirez is more of a lock for 85, 25, 100, 0, .290.

I have them very close in my rankings so it is a good question. Youkilis is more of a 'sure thing' as long as you projecting him to lose 5-10 of those HRs.

I though A-Ram easily but expecting about the same as last year's 100 R, 30 HR, 110 RBI, .290 BA Youkilis should match or better everthing but the HR. Youkilis is 1B/3B and I have more faith in him than Ramirez to stay health. :-?

I think they are pretty close, but I'd take Aramis...
