Jeff Larish?

Postby whatinthebluehell » Wed Mar 11, 2009 10:04 pm

I have felt for the last 3 years that Jeff Larish is a certain sleeper for the Tigers and looks like this year he's going to get his chance to get regular AB's being one of the few Lefty's in the lineup...Thoughts on Larish? Who do you compare him too? By the way i'm in a 20 team dynasty with 25 minor league players, so its a DEEEEP league.

I don't really have a comparison, but he's probably not a player I'd want to own. He has a very long swing and misses a lot. He comes off as your prototypical roller coaster power hitter, and IMO that's a best case option. There's a reason Detroit was shopping him this off-season and couldn't find much for him.

i'll be surprised if he makes the team out of the gate
Mr. Misty-May and Ramon Santiago are locks...Thames probably is too unless he gets traded. ideally Leyland wants the 4th reserve spot to go to someone who can play CF. Minge can, but Leyland said that wasnt and option, so it will likely be someone like Clete Thomas or Ryan Rayburn

so in all likelyhood he needs to beat out Thames, which i just dont see happening.

they are also going to try out Larish in the corner OF spots, so if he did get called up because of injury he could end up with 1B, 3B and OF elegibility, but even then probably not worth owning outside of very large leagues

He shouldn't make the team out of ST. I have a feeling that teams going to carry 12 pitchers, leaving Larish short of a roster spot.

Not a believer. Too many good hitters/big contracts in his way and he didn't exactly make way for himself in his 100 ABs last year. To be honest I'm not sure he'll ever be a fantasy starter...

Just read in an article how much Leyland loves Larish but the problem is a roster spot. By the way I'm in a very very deep dynasty league and will be holding onto him. Just want the nuts and bolts on him...

Big Tigers fan and not a fan of Larish at all...like many others say there are too many guys ahead of him. If it weren't for him swinging left we'd never talk about him.

If you have the room in a deep, deep league then I'd possiblt give him a look.
