Where to take A-Rod? When to take pitching?

Postby angels7777 » Wed Mar 11, 2009 7:48 pm

For all you guys who have already drafted, where is A-Rod going and when do you suggest taking a chance on him?

Also, what round do cafe guys tend to take their first pitcher. Since this is a H2H league I tend to wait until rounds 5-6 at the earliest. What do you guys think?

5x5 H2H 12 team non-keeper
5x5 H2H, NK 10 teams
C- JP
1B- Voto
2B- Zobri
3B- ARam
SS- Rolins
OF- J. Uptn, Choo, A. Gordn
UTIL- Fielder
BN- C. Crawfrd
SP- Hamls, Bumgarner, Galardo, I. Kenedy, Fister, Kurda, Minr, Dempstr, Burnet, Ogando
RP- Cishek, Veras, Parnel

I haven't seen A-Rod drafts lately, but I'm hearing 3-5.

I've only done one mock draft this year, and I took an SP in the third (Johan) and the fifth (Peavy). I wouldn't do that again in a real draft--one in the top 5 is fine.

I'll say 3rd round at the moment is still risky, but I'd probably take a chance as early as the 4th/5th. 6-9 weeks sounds like an optimistic recovery time for a torn labrum in the hip. Add to the fact that A-Rod is likely to be running less and you probably have an Adrian Beltre type of season. If you have an adequate 3B for cover like Beltre, Gordon, or Cantu, you're probably getting A-Ram type production when you factor in A-Rod's numbers.

As for pitching, it depends on what's left over within the first 5 rounds. Personally, I've only taken a pitcher within the first 5 rounds only once in 4 drafts so far this year. I still advise getting an ace in the first 5 rounds, get a second-tier ace in the 7th-9th, then build on from there.

all of my drafts thus far have been pre-arod injury and he was also going 3-5 in mine also, ive heard hes dipped a little bit in the order tho...

I usually wait for the quality, if a guy like peavy is around for me in the 4-5 range i think im game for him, johan 2-3... now linc mid-late 2nd i think is great value also... i usually look at quality at that particular spot in the round and whats left... i hate when people run the train, but you have to have some quality SP to compete...

help me out...
