Need Some Help! WHIR

Postby Xezus » Wed Mar 11, 2009 5:34 pm

12 team H2H 8x8 cats. We can keep 7 players.

C-Martin
1B-Pujols
2B-Phillips
3B-Cantu
SS-Jeter
OF-Beltran
OF-Cruz
OF-Chris Young
UTIL-Delgado
BN-Delmon young, Billy Butler, Aj. Pierzynski

SP-Johan, Billingsley, Joba, Kazmir, Scherzer, Parra, Malhom
RP-Fuentes, Perez

I was looking to see if i could trade for Utley, but now a part of me thinks i should be happy with phillips. I also thought that my OF was weak, but alot of people are high on cruz this year, and Chris young apparently has been working on his swing, which should help his average which is the only thing holding him back from being a great OF. Cantu has been hitting HR's for mexico in the WBC so he doesnt seem like that bad of a 3b given last years numbers.

My question is, does anyone see any glaring holes in my team?
And if so, do u have any ideas on how to help? Possible trades?

Thanks, i know these kinda posts are always hard to respond to, so anything will be much appreciated!

Thanks for helping in my thread....

I like your team overall especially starting pitching but doesnt look like youll have to many steals and your relief pitching looks suspect to me, if they hold up to there projections they only have 45-55 saves combined.

take what i say with a grain of salt as im just learning and this is my first year playing fantasy baseball

You're team looks pretty strong. You could probably use 2 more sources of saves (at least 1 more to start the season). Chris Perez isn't a lock for saves so you really only have 1 steady source of saves.

Are there any potential sources of saves (or sleepers for saves) available in the FA pool? [Think guys like Corpas or Motte.]

I like that you have Cantu since he should be 1B eligible in your league which is a huge plus since Delgado is touch and go. Finding a productive 3B to replace Cantu at 3B is most likely going to be easier than finding a 1B IMO. Hopefully Butler has a good year since he is also 1B eligible.

Pitching looks pretty solid...keep tabs on Mad Max. I was going to try and target him in my upcoming draft but the shoulder issue has me a tad worried. As long as Joba keeps progressing and can handle 180'ish innings he should round out a potent pitching staff(meaning your fantasy team)

Depending on how many you start I would definitely agree with S27 and try and land a more consistent closer or find another starter.

As everyone else said, you should monitor closers and see if you can snag some more saves... watch seattle closely to see who emerges, also, a lot of people think its still possible that Manny Corpas takes back the closer position sooner than later...

I would try to shore up on your outfield, I like Nelson Cruz and Young but i'd try to package one of them and Joba for a significant upgrade... if you can't get one, i think as long as you fix your saves issue you'll be fine anyways
For every Brett Myers there's a Nate McLouth...

As everyone else has said here, you could use a major upgrade at closer and I think trading one of your top starters would be a wise decision in return for a decent SP and good closer (example: Kazmir for Scott Baker and Broxton).

I dropped AJ and got Corpas and updated notes say hes the leader right now for the closer, so ill monitor that and ill keep an eye on STL closer battle which has i think 3 pitchers fighting haha. Thanks alot for your help :-D

Closer would should be your biggest priority, even after landing Corpas. If Perez doesnt win the job you will be back to 2 closers again, so monitor his situation closely. Dont sweat it though, we both know there is a lot of turnover at the closer position throughout the season, so just keep an eye on waivers and when an established closer goes down w/ an injury or isnt getting the job doen, you can grab his replacement.
