Peoria, AZ (Sports Network) - San Diego Padres infielder Phil Nevin is expected to miss four weeks with a strained left shoulder. An MRI on Monday revealed the injury.
Nevin re-injured the shoulder during a 6-3 loss to the Anaheim Angels on Sunday, exactly one year to the day he dislocated it.
The 33-year-old Nevin dislocated the shoulder last year while diving for a ball in left field. This time, he suffered the injury when he dove for a liner at first base in the second inning.
Nevin immediately left the field with his face buried in his hands.
He missed most of last season with the injury, coming back to the team to post 13 home runs and 46 RBI and a .279 batting average in 59 games.
