Volquez, Cueto, Chamberlain

(1) For this upcoming season, who do you think will have the best fantasy production? Why?

(2) For the future, who will have the better career? Why?

Don't consider this an essay assignment. I am just trying to get perspective on these guys, and maybe you can help. It's likely that someone will come to me looking for a young stud, and I want to be ready to talk trade.

Volquez - Unlikely to repeat last seasons numbers, but is he for real?

Cueto - How soon will he put it all together?

Chamberlain - Talent's there, but will he be healthy? Is there reason to be concerned?

volquez - best of the bunch for this season, and i think he has the best career of the three...nasty stuff, good enough command, and strong head on his shoulders

cueto - number 2 this season, i think he improves a bit from last year, especially with his consistency

joba - the wild card...if the yankees keep him in the rotation, then he has the worst season of the 3 this year (dont think it will be terrible, probably just above mediocre) and will be the second best of the three in the future, ahead of cueto. if he moves to the pen, well then all bets are off as far as this argument goes, though i do think that he would be a top RP at that point

Even on an innings cap, I'd probably go with Joba because he's not likely to damage your ratios quite like Volquez and Cueto could.

I don't see Volquez being as good as his first half indicates, especially when his GB/FB ratio came back down to Earth (I'll say his ERA will be more like in the low-to-mid-4's). I can see Cueto outproducing Volquez for a cheaper price and Cueto might have the best control over the two in the long term. I think Cueto needs to be less reliant on that slider to be successful and I believe Dusty Baker wore his arm out in his rookie year as well.

So, I'll say Joba today and tomorrow.

Chamberlain is easily the most talented of the list, the only concern is his health. I'd still take him over either Reds hurler based on potential for low ERA, Ks, and Wins on a good team.

Volquez has shown me something in the first half of last season, so we have to hope he made some adjustments going into this season. He's too wild to put over Joba. He's second.

Cueto has a lot of talent, but he has to show me something in order to put him over Volquez. I would like him on my team, but he's third on this list.

Volquez by a landslide. He has the best stuff and should be a #2 starter for quite a while.

I'm not sold that Chamberlain is ever going to be a good starter. His power style seems a better fit as a closer than a starter. If he does make it as a starter, it is a year or two away.

Cueto is going to be decent, but not a #1 or #2 starter. More likely a #4 type starter.

Thanks, guys. Looks like these three are pretty debatable.
