Which MR's with these picks?

Postby rails80 » Tue Mar 10, 2009 7:00 am

I'm thinking of going back-to-back with RP's in the 16th/17th rounds of our 25 round draft. It's a 20 team dynasty, so it's picks 320 and 321. League counts Holds and is a H2H league.

I've narrowed it down to 3 guys - JJ Putz, Scot Shields and Jason Motte. Which 2 do you take?

Shields is a lock for 30+ holds, with low ERA/WHIP. He could also gain a few saves if Fuentes falters.

Motte could be closing this year, and if not, I anticipate him being a setup guy...

Motte for sure.

Putz fastball velocity is still down. Kind of a toss up with him and Shields.

Well, I'm a Mets fan so Putz it is. Lol. Putz and Motte are my picks. NEVER, ever go back-to-back MR's ... unless you're me. ;-D

Putz for the first. You know he gets holds, and is a fore sure 2nd in line for saves, and he can get you 8-9 without KRod missing a game.

Second pick, Motte can close this year, so he has potential, but I watched Fuentes for years here in Colorado, and I can tell you, he probably won't keep the job all year.

Question in Anaheim is Do they go with Shields, or if Arredondo goes lights out, do they hand him the ball and tell him to run with it? (Sorry for the mixed sports metaphor.)

Overall, since both have questions, I go with the SLIGHTLY more likely to close, Motte.

Putz and Shields. It actually looks like Franklin may actually steal the Cardinals closer role, at least initially. Also Motte is hardly a sure thing, and there's a good chance the youngster will struggle a bit.

I don't think Franklin is going to close unless both Motte and Perez fizzle. I think there's a good chance that Motte "takes the ball and runs with it". He's got to add a 2nd "out" pitch, but he's a K machine and those guys are usually good for closing out games. Seems like he has the make-up for it.

Now to start drafting my bench. I like this roster in a 20 teamer.
