It's a 10-team, 5x5 roto keeper league. Each team keeps 10 players. There are no penalties or restrictions on keepers. Draft is this coming weekend
Here are the 10 players I kept:
2b- Brandon Phillips 3b- A-Rod (I now consider "labrum" a 4-letter word) ss- Troy Tulowitzki of- Carl Crawford of- Mag. Ordonez of- Curtis Granderson util- Jay Bruce SP- Lincicum SP- Scott Kazmir RP- Joakim Soria
i have the 4th pick in the draft. Originally, my plan was to take the best available player in the 1st round (probably another OF), and then start focusing on 1B and Starting Pitcher in the later rounds. But now that A-Rod is injured, I'm going a bit crazy trying to figure out what i am going to do.
Here are the best players available in the draft. They are roughly in the oder that I currently have them ranked. Please help me prepare for my 1st and 2nd round picks (4th and 17th overall). Please keep in mind my needs at 1B, 3B and SP (most managers in the league kept 3 SP's).
Carlos Beltran (clearly #1 choice, but no way he makes it to me @ 4th pick) Ichiro Suzuki - of Nate McLouth - of Chipper Jones - 3b (chipper scares the heck out of me..i hate that I need to consider him now) Shane Victorino - of Corey Hart - of Francisco Liriano - sp Chris Davis - 1b/3b (would it be too much of a stretch to take Davis with my 1st pick?) Joey Votto - 1B Hunter Pence - of James Shields - SP Adam Dunn - of (not eligible @ 1B in our league) Joba Chamberlain - SP Carlos Pena - 1b Aubrey Huff - 1b/3b Dan Uggla - 2b (probably ranked too low but I dont need a 2b) Rafael Furcal - SS Robinson Cano - 2b
Clearly, it's unfair for me to ask you guys to rank all of these guys (but if anybody wants to, I wont try to talk you out of it). So I guess the basic questions that I have are:
a) How would you rank the top 4 or 5 players on this list , considering my situation (to help with my 1st pick)?
b) Do I need to take Chipper, C. Davis or Votto with my 1st pick no matter what because of my needs at 1b and 3b?
c) Which of the guys towards the bottom of the list would be the best values to target with the 2nd round pick.
Any and all advice will be appreciated...even if you only answer one of the above questions, or even just comment on 1 or 2 of the available players.
I'll gladly WHIR....just leave a link to your thread. Thanks!
i think your definite strategy is figure where you think Aubrey Huff will be going. (i personally think he will be available for your second pick, but you know the guys in your league better than I do) I think you gott get aburey becasue he can fill in for Arod for now and then you can move him over to first later on..
it looks like your team is a little bit slow and could use some help in the average dept whit bruce and philips draggin'
I think your best bet is Ichiro in the first and Aubrey in the 2nd..
maybe look for Pablo Sandoval a bit later because your team is pretty old and adding Ichiro and Aubrey ain't gonna be much help in that aspect.
if beltran is there with your 4th pick... then it's an easy one for you.
If not (likely), then if you're comfortable with it... roll with chris davis with your first pick. He gives you positional eligibility, and we could be looking at a potential 2nd rounder at seasons end.
Here's to you, Mr. Robinson. Jesus loves you more than you Cano.
take Davis. He should be a top 100 keeper for many years with fantasy stud potential. He is 3B this year so he can fill in until Arod plays then he is a 1B or util
take the best available, period. Chris Davis is not worth a 1st round pick over a Beltran, etc. With your 2nd pick you can look at finding a replacement. My guess is most teams are set at 1st Base with keepers so won't be looking there anyway
If you need a SP, you may want to consider grabbing Shields, but if you can wait a bit, then I say go for Davis or Votto ... if nothing else, they project great power numbers in great hitter's parks. Chipper's injuries are not something you want to overpay for. Lastly, if you are a gambler with pitchers, Liriano is potentially intriguing. But since Kazmir is not a Teflon arm, I would maybe take the hitter here.
