Pardon me if this is a stupid question, but this is only the 2nd year that I've run my leagues on ESPN. We get to keep four every year, but every team still has their full roster from last year. Is it safe to assume that all non-keepers will be auto-purged by ESPN when the draft starts? Or do I have to go through and purge all non-keepers from each team?

Correct, all non-keepers are dropped right before the draft.

you are best served to drop the players not kept ahead of the draft so everyone can view the draft pool easily... well unless your keeper deadline is just a day or less ahead of your draft
