Who is better as a starting Catcher?

Postby ChiSoxFan95 » Mon Mar 09, 2009 12:59 pm

Who is better as a starting Catcher? Jeff Clement or Kurt Suzuki.
I'm in a 14 team roto league. I have Kurt Suzuki right now, and Clement is on waivers. I have a low waiver anyway (12 /14), and once you make a selection, your waiver number gets moved to last. I don't think I would take a big hit getting Clement if he is better. What do you think?

Whenever I am low on waivers like that I just wait till they process. No need to drop back to 14. I would take a chance on Clement. Not sure if he will materialize this year but he raked at Triple-A.

I wouldn't own either even in an AL only league, but if forced to pick - take Clement and cross your fingers.

I like Clement better but there is no reason to burn a waiver spot on him.

Agreed - Clement as a FA

Wait for Clement to clear waivers, then pick him up. I think this is a must if you're in a keeper league. Clement has a lot of upside.

I actually like Kurt Suzuki to start the season. The 25-year-old hit almost .280 in 530 plate appearance, and that has its advantages. Clement can kill your average, but he does have better upside for sure. Suzuki is good enough to really not hurt you too much. I'd keep an eye on Clement for sure though. Either move is about the same.

Clement hit for a .286 in 1086 AB in the minors. He has about as much chance to hurt your BA as Suzuki.

That can't even be the case right now. Suzuki has done things in the majors while Clement clearly hasn't. Clement will develop into a better player in terms of counting stats, but it isn't a question Suzuki can help average. I just think it is closer than some people think.
