First, Tex has much more value in a straight up deal. You should be able to land a stud outfielder in the very least. Someone at the minimum like a Beltran.
Secondly, If you wanted to go 1-1 with a pitcher, you should be able to get at the minimumt someone like Brandon Webb for Tex.
I would prefer to go for the 1-1 route rather than take two decent players for a 1st round Stud.
Lastly, I am pretty high on Pelfrey this year. He could be a solid contributor to your team and put up very nice numbers. Don't like the fact that he seems to just be thrown in there.
while i agree, pelfrey could post numbers similar to last year, he's not a strike out guy so i don't see much improvement on the way. shields should be a much more reliable contributor and as a third year guy, a breakout is much more likely for him. i could see him as a haren type pitcher - low walks 180 ks 15 wins
obviously i'd rather have teix than ellsbury, but the guy is young. some power could develop, his walk/strikeouts can improve. could be the next carl crawford - 110 runs, 50 steals, 12 homers
so i think of this trade as potentially haren and crawford for teix and pelfrey.
