I know I went with some more closers then normal, but the starting pitching was just flying off the draft board. So with that in mind I decided to go with the closer heavy and young SP's with good potential. Offensively I think I should be alright, my outfield seems to be pretty solid (maybe Young can have a decent BA) and I snagged Salty and Weeks real late so maybe they might have some production.
But overall what do you guys think?? Any ideas on improvements or weaknesses???
You're pretty loaded with 4 closers, but that will be great trade bait when teams are scraping for saves in July. Your starting pitching could use some help, you really only have one guaranteed starting pitcher.
I worded it weird, but I meant that Shields is your only safe bet starting. Gallardo is coming off a major injury, Cain won't win more than 10 games, Scherzer is a rookie, Floyd only had one decent season, and Duchscherer might go to the bullpen.
I think this team works. Your hitting is fine, not elite, but pretty good. You might be able to improve over salty, since it looks like he might be platooning. Like how you reacted to the draft environment by loading up on closers. The ninth inning guys should help your rate stats and give you a lead in saves, which you can turn into a tradible asset down the road. you'll be fighting for wins and maybe k's all year, but this is a good team.
The only comment is that if you had to pick a position to take some trade bait in, its a shame that it had to be RP. I think you probably would have been better off with one or two more established and reliable starters and rolled the dice with one or two of the closers.
Lineup seems solid. Not the greatest I've ever seen, but solid. I'm not a huge Young fan personally. If Ethier is available (or can be had) I'd try to get him.
As of 8/4/13 C:Napoli 1B:Goldshmidt 2B:Kinsler, Gyorko SS:Tulo, Profar 3B:Longoria, Machado, Middlebrooks OF:Harper, J. Upton, AGon, R. Davis, Venable SP:Scherzer, Minor, Ryu, E.Santana, Beachy, Samardzja, J.Johnson (DL), T.Ross RP:Perez, Rodney, Farquar
I dont know, I kind of like how I will be top in Saves, ERA, and WHIP. Then hopefully i finish middle of the pack with Wins and K's. Hopefully I will get about 38-45 points from pitching and then I think my hitters will do just fine.
i think this is a pretty solid team- you are very strong at closer and this will be great trade bait as the season moves on. i think your SP is alright but not fantastic, lots of questions with this staff but lots of the SP this year seem to have questions surrounding them. i think your OF is pretty solid but you could use an upgrade at 3B- once the season gets going you might be able to move loney for an upgrade or if weeks can put it all together move pedroia, cruz salty and young could be big drains on your avg. not bad overall though
Your offense is ok, but pitching is your strength, although you have too many top-flight closers (not a bad thing mind you ). If I were you, I would trade one of your closers+one of your middling pitchers for a good pitcher, preferably one that gets a lot of strikeouts.
