keeper question

Postby pmccurry » Sun Mar 08, 2009 8:57 pm

I'm in a 5 player keeper, 10 team h2h mixed league. we have a 23 round draft, in which the 5 players you keep are your first 5 picks.

I was just offered nick markakis for my 9th round pick. should I do this?

my other keepers are: jose reyes, miggy cabrera, evan longoria and c.c. sabathia

note: he originally offerend kemp, markakis or upton. would upton for my eighth be better?

Before analyzing the deal, note that it is you giving up your 9th round pick (and your 5th round pick, as he'd be protected) for Markakis (if I understand correctly). I am trying to imagine the roster where Markakis is not one of the 5 keepers.

I would do it, but note that it's not as simple as 9th round for Markakis.

Help with mine:

thats the thing. this guy's team is stacked. i only have 4 guys that i want to keep, which would let me pick in the 5th round out of guys that weren't kept. there are a couple of teams that are flat out stacked, so I would ultimately me choosing from some good picks. im leaning toward not doing it and seeing if I can just pick someone just as good for my fifth spot. then i weill essentially have all of my picks. think that's wise?

I do believe Markakis is a 2nd-3rd Round Pick overall, so i would give up my 5th Round pick for him. Are all other teams protecting 5? In that case, you can get Markakis with the 5th Round Pick. Who else is likely to be available? It is a risk, but, unless there are likely to be a few Markakis's available....Do you know where you are picking in the 5th Round. There is likely to be a major difference between the 1st pick and the last pick if there are more than a handful of players.

i'd be picking fourth overall from the 5th round, so i would have a good choice. like i said, the guy offered upton, markakis, and kemp at first, so those three could be there, but who knows. i dont have a keeper list yet, so i really dont know who will be available. im just worried to give up a 5th and a 9th for a guy, but it seems to be an okay move...
