Utley for Cano/E.Santana? WHIR

Postby mister_jay_peg » Sun Mar 08, 2009 7:46 pm

This is in a keeper Yahoo 6x6 (standard plus TB's and Hlds), 12 teams. Positions are C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, 3OF, 2 Util, 3SP, 3RP, 3P, and 7 Bench spots.

My team as it stands is :

C Benjie Molina
1B James Loney
2B Chase Utley
3B Garrett Atkins
SS Michael Young
OF Bobby Abreu
OF Carlos Beltran
OF Manny Ramirez
Util Jason Bay
Util Chone Figgins

SP Dan Haren
SP Javier Vazquez
SP James Shields
RP Brian Wilson
RP BJ Ryan
RP Trevor Hoffman
P Brad Ziegler
P Grant Balfour
P Paul Maholm

Bench Brad Hawpe
Bench Ian Stewart
Bench Mark Buehrle
Bench Clay Buchholz
Bench Chris Perez
Bench Gil Meche
Bench JP Howell

I know Cano is an across the board downgrade from Utley, but Ervin better than any one outside of my top 3SP, and can beat any of those guys in a category or two each.

If I take the deal, it'll be either Perez or Buchholz on the cutting block...

Post your links, I'll help out by the end of the night.

Thanks!

Well, Ervin is going to open the season on the DL. http://www.latimes.com/sports/baseball/ ... 4729.story
I wouldn't cut Perez though if you made a deal. I think he's going to be the man to close out games in St. Louis.

There is no way I would trade any keeper for 2 non-keepers. Your SP is adequate for a 12 team league. If you want to improve your SP, drop one or more of your RP's who don't have much of a shot at closing game to start the season, like Howell.

No way I move Utley in that scenario, even before the injury news on E. Santana.

Utley is well above both Cano and Santana. Check out my Utley deal in the link below. You can get a lot better than those 2 for Chase.

Yeah, not a good deal for you at all. Don't do it.

thanks for your help on my post... I won't bring too much more to the table here -- I agree you keep Utley. Santana's got a short trackrecord and relatively lenghty injury record (I think?). was the home record or the away record the real Santana? not sold - not worth the downgrade with Cano... and now of course this may be a moot discussion with the injury...

Do not do this trade. Santana is injured and Chase is just too good.

Yeah I agree -- stay away from this deal. Utley is a certified commodity, Cano is constantly overrated, as has been mentioned in the rankings on this site, and Santana has injury issues and has had up-and-down years before last season.

You're getting ripped off. Trading arguably one of the best all around hitters in baseball, not to mention a top 3 2nd baseman, for a decent 2nd baseman and an above average pitcher is borderline silly. Don't do it.
