I say that mostly because I had been a frustrated owner of Carlos Marmol in an NL-only keeper league for the last 2 years. I dealt him last year before our deadline to make a play-off run and don't regret.
It seems the Cubs will do whatever it takes not to give Marmol the save ops. Going into last season, Marmol was the front-runner for saves as per fantasy websites and everything else I read. But Lou Pinella went with Kerry Wood, the veteran, and Pinella is still the manager and he likes and trusts veterans. I think the Cubs like the young Marmol as a reliable set-up man, especially with Howry gone, but Pinella wants a little more experience before he gives the ball to a closer in the ninth. Even if you see report after report that Marmol is a lock to close, I think Gregg is a great guy to take a late-round flier are on or make a low bid in an auction draft. Gregg was given a closer salary in the off season and is a reliable option at closer.
Marmol should still go much higher than Gregg, and Marmol should eventualy be a closer, maybe this year, maybe later- but if you are looking for a good late round value pick at RP, Gregg is a great guy to grab. And if you want holds or saves, you pretty much can't lose with Gregg - he should get one or the other. So anyway, I don't know if Gregg's the best guy on your list, but he's someone you should consider.
There is a lot of truth to that, I can honestly say I do not have Marmol on a single team for that reason. I think he's great, I'm just not convinced the Cubs do.
