My Reyes and Teix for his Hanley...

Postby jswede » Sun Mar 08, 2009 12:39 pm

There a little more to it than the subject line... first, we're in a 10 team, 6x6 (add OBP & K/BB) both leagues roto, and we keep only FOUR players year to year. We play 9 positions plus a DH, and 5 SP with 2 RP.

We keep last year's roster over the off-season so that we can do trades until Mid-March, when the four keepers are set, and we draft a week later. Most people's keepers are pretty set, so there's not much trading but there have been a few interesting ones -- they wind up being top players, obviously, since we keep only 40 players total in the league.

Of my top players, listed below, I plan to keep these 4:

Teixeira
Utley
Reyes
Longoria
...also have Soto, Sabathia, Quentin, Ludwick...

So then yesterday I get a trade offer of his Hanley for my Teixiera and Reyes. Hanley is imo the best there is and a move to 3rd spot should give him a 100+rbi season to go with the rest of his ridiculous stat line (though his steals will drop off a little).

Why I'm considering this is because I get a power upgrade at SS, and the drop in value from Teix to Sabathia (or Soto or Quentin?) who I'll bring in as my new 4th keeper isn't all that much... then I need to look at who I replace Teix with -- I'll likley be able to get Berk, Prince or Morneau in the draft -- which doesn't seem all to bad.

So if I traded I'd wind up with as my keepers:

Utley
Hanley Ramirez
Longoria
Sabathia

...then draft from the remaining pool, consisting of all players less the 40 keepers.

******WHIR****** pls just direct me.

imo you are giving up way to much.

you talk about the drop from Teixeria to CC or Quentin not being great but I think the drop off from Teixeria to your next keeper is much greater than the gain you make with Hanley over Reyes.

If the Hanley owner wants to trade him a Reyes + CC/Quentin for Hanley is more than fair imo

The trade is essentially Hanley/Quentin for Reyes/Tex. I prefer Hanley over Reyes, especially when hitting in the 3-hole will benefit Hanley better than Reyes might at that spot (though I still believe Reyes will hold onto the leadoff role). Adding Tex on the side sounds steep, but I think it's still worth it if you can keep Quentin albeit the latter is a bit riskier than Tex.

I'd be all over Hanley!!!!!!!!!Seriously, the drop off between him and Reyes is MUCH bigger than the drop-off b/n Tex and Berkman/Fielder/Morneau. Dont forget that Sabathia was ranked ahead of Tex last year (according to Yahoo ranks) for overall stats. I know I know, ranks mean squat, but Sabathia has a chance to improve on last years' stats whereas Tex's took a hit with the A-Rod surgery.

dammit Houser..!!! just what you're saying is what I've been debating -- I can keep CC and still pick up a very good 1B in draft - while getting a 25yr old #1 player in fantasy... in a keeper league.

thanks again for the comments. I'm 80% sure that I stick with what I got, but I feel what you're saying!

Counter with Reyes + Quentin. To be honest, I'm not sold on Longoria, and would take CC over him in a heartbeat.
