Keepers - Which 2 -Prince, Mauer, Crawford, Furcal, Lackey ?

Postby Moss84 » Sun Mar 08, 2009 11:53 am

I am in a 12 team h2h Auction mixed keeper league, 5x5 Scoring - keep 5 players.

Start (each week) - 1 C, 1b, 2b, SS, 3b, 3 of, dh- any hitter, 5 pitchers, 1 closer

Salary Cap is $1000 and draft 25 players (2 at each Infield, 5 OF, 8 Starters, 2 closers)

Keepers: 1 IF, 1 OF, 1 SP and 2 extra keepers can be any position
I'm already Keeping: Utley ($50), Hamels ($40), Markakis ($85)

Other options (need TWO):

Mauer ($80) -- Martin, Mccann, and Soto will be kept. --- No catcher went for over $100 in 2008 - is it worth keeping Mauer or trying to get an upside player like Ianetta much cheaper ?

Fielder ($95) -- Texiera and Berkman went for $150 last year --I'm thinking Fielder could go for $130 to $140 if re-auctioned so keeping at $95 although high might be decent value -- my only reservation is 1B seems like the deepest position. -- but alot of the studs: Pujols, Howard, Morneau, Cabrera will be kept

Furcal ($40) -- He's 31 coming off back surgery but did get 3 year contract from Dodgers. Hanley, Reyes and Drew will be Kept and Rollins went for $190 last year. --- one thing is based on projected stats he's not projected to be top 10 based on our scoring system.

Crawford ($95) -- not sure if he'll get back to 5x5 stud from 2007 ??

Lackey ($60) -- seems like a no brainer as one of my extra keepers but SP could be the deepest position in Fantasy this year.

Which of these 2 Other options should I keep ? Thanks for any insights.

At those prices I would probably go with feilder and Mauer. Mauer is #1 scoring catcher and feilder for 95 seems pretty cheap. I don't like pitchers and furcal with his injury who really knows. Crawford just scares me with his 2008 performance.

I'd keep Fielder and Mauer. With those 5 players Markakis, Mauer, Fielder, Utley and Hamels for $350 so that leaves you with 650 to fill the rest of your team which should be enough.

Prince is a no-brainer. I'd keep Crawford and look to buy a C for a bit cheaper, perhaps even to make a run at Wieters.

keep fielder and mauer..
both are the most sure thing. furcal and crawford have questions that if even answered wouldnt be much better than fielder or mauer. maybe still target ianetta and use mauer in trade since other catchers in your league are also keepers
