In a 20 team dynasty league I have Tex and Howard at 1st and Utility, Zimmerman at 3rd, and Bill Hall on my bench. I am thinking of dropping Bill Hall even though he is supposed to open the season as the Brewers starting 3rd baseman, for the "put me anywhere and I'll play" Pirates bench option Eric Hinske. Due to the fact that Hinske can play, 1st, 3rd, LF, RF and reportedly 2nd base as well (although we have yet to see it) I think he will get lots of playing time and eventually win the right to occupy one of those position full time this season.
Hall may be penciled in as the starter, but they aren't working Emilio Bonifacio over at 3rd for no reason this spring, and they also have Gamel who is as ready as he'll ever be to make a major league impact.
Who would you rather take a chance on in a 5x5 Yahoo H2H format?
Hinske's a backup, and that should buy you the time to see whether or not Hall can rebound vs. righties this year. That's what really killed him and his value last year.
You should know inside of a couple weeks (plus ST games to up the sample size) whether or not he's still cratering vs. right-handers, forcing him to get platooned or replaced.
I'd think the Brewers will be playing the same game as you.
EDIT (I re-read your post): If he's already on your bench in a 20-teamer, then he's droppable right now. Use him as a scud (i.e., let some other sap start him, burn a waiver on him, and hopefully drop a Lind or something for him that you'd rather have anyways). Scud, scud, scud!
I've been following the situation pretty close and it looks like Hinske's gonna win a starting RF job, the Pirates aren't happy with what they are seeing from Steve Pearce yet. looks like he'll get more time in AAA. So I made the move. I got Hall for free last season after he cleared waivers, there doesn't appear to be much league interest in him. I also tried to slip him in to nearly every off-season deal this year, he was nothing but a deal killer for me.

Tough call, Hinske might well finish the best but I agree that he starts the season on the bench as a fill-in. Hall has the golden opportunity to play himself right to the bench. I ended up with Hall on my teams the past two year but he never started on my team and never finished the year on my team.
