One crap team - Three trade offers

Postby Tenacious D-Store » Fri Mar 06, 2009 11:02 pm

I joined a league that drafted 3 hours earlier than I expected, usually Yahoo shows me leagues in Eastern Standard time and I guess I just didn't pay enough attention when I created a new account and joined a league. I logged in to draft and there was my team waiting for me along with Ben Sheets and various other useless garbage. I'm still gonna play it out since it's H2H and a dead team really screws things up. I updated my trade block and got a few offers.

Offer #1 (I like This one, I'm not big on Price this season)
I give Lance Berkman & David Price For Matt Capps & Jake Peavy

Offer #2
I give Vernon Wells, Jorge Cantu, Lance Berkman & David Price For Casey Kotchman, Jed Lowrie, Félix Hernández, A.J. Burnett, & Chris Pérez

Offer #3 (has been retracted but he may accept if I offer it back up)
I give Lance Berkman, Jorge Cantú, & David Price for Casey Kotchman, Félix Hernández, & A.J. Burnett

Here's the squad it's a bit of a weird league starting two of all infield positions.

I'd rank them as #3, #1, then #2. I think the quantity of good SP you get back in #3 is tempting but I think you could get an ace for Berkman. Maybe an ace + low end closer.

#1 You basically get a free top closer.

I'm not crazy on AJ like most.

I'm on the fence about AJ, but since no one was really paying any attention to this post for awhile I re-offered the third deal. My hope is that I can the spin AJ to some over excited Yankees fan and pick up a mid range starter and Brian Wilson type closer.

#1 - no way
Lance Berkman >> Peavy
David Price > Matt Capps

#2 - no way
Lance Berkman >>> Casey Kotchman
Vernon Wells = A.J. Burnett
Jorge Cantu < Félix Hernández
David Price > Jed Lowrie + Chris Pérez

#3 - better, but still no thanks
Lance Berkman >>> Casey Kotchman
Jorge Cantú < Félix Hernández
David Price < A.J. Burnett

Don't chase pitching in H2H. Keep hitting as your strength. BTW, I'm not sure if I would drop Ellis for Bonaficio...

If I had my choice I would go with the first offer myself, you have plenty of offense but your pitching staff does need work. Berkman should get you Peavy easily straight up, I'm not sure I would deal Price though. If you can make it say Berkman and Kershaw for Capps and Peavy then you're good, but keep Price as he's a special talent IMO. And yeah, Bonifacio is simply a utility man he's not going to play 2nd everyday for the Marlins. That's still Dan Uggla's job. Keep Ellis in this case too. Hope that helps!!!

Actually Bonifacio is currently learning third and the outfield. He should prove to be the new Ryan Freel. The Marlins are high on him and want to use him everyday. On a side note, I re-offered #3 and it was accepted. I wanted to accept the first deal, but I figured I could get a closer anywhere. Capps alone will not give my team an edge in saves.

I would agree that Capps won't give you an edge in saves alone, mainly because he's with the Pirates. But nonetheless, you don't have any other closers on your team so you might as well get one with him. Reyes will be in the starting rotation for the Tribe and Rodney will be a setup man for Brandon Lyon (YIKES!!!!) :-o If you can find someone like Manny Corpas or Matt Lindstrom or maybe Joey Devine on the free agent list you could be OK. I know I don't like to punt any catagories myself, so I don't punt saves. I try to get at least a couple of guys that can close out games. That's just me though. B-)
