You are not being consistent with your criteria since some of the guys you listed, notably Jefferey Hammonds, lasted 13 seasons in the MLB.
And Rivera stole Jeter's glove not his bat. But anyway...

Difference bring that at least Kearns and to a certain degree Patterson are still active.

For example Alexi Casilla has great defensive tools but he uses them poorly (poor positioning after the ball is hit, rushing throws, bobbling grounders).
I think it comes down to defensive potential not actuality.
