Selling your #1 short is a prescription to losing. You need a little luck to win at fantasy baseball and locking in a loss by selling your number 1 for a number 5 or 6 is not the way to go about winning. Sometimes you just can't win because you get some bad luck and people get hurt or stink up the joint that are supposed to be very good. Them's the breaks.
Yeah you could conceivably have such an outstanding team you can win without your number one performing well or with him playing like a round 5 player. But the odds of that are pretty slim usually, esp. if you play with experienced owners. And usually there is no prize for finishing third instead of fifth or second instead of third. Unless you play in a money league where maybe shooting for second or third is monetarily a payout position and that is better than finishing out of the money altogeher, you usually can safely assume that you play for first place and if you do not get that it really does not matter whether you finish 2nd, third or fourth because you cut your losses by getting an Atkins over a hurt Arod.

Obviously, he is trying to buy low on AROD. This is real tricky, as he could be out only a month all the way to the whole year. No one really knows. At this point, I would look for more in the deal.
If I pursue a trade myself and look to trade Arod does anyone have any advice or input on who I should be looking for in return? I don't want to give me away for so low, but I would like to get a secure 3B in return that can still put up quality numbers.
It's almost like there's no way I can get a good deal, but I will most likely try.
The more I hear on this situation, the more I think he'll be out long term. I'm reconsidering the deal. I'll see if I can get one more solid bat in the package.

The value may be getting a little closer for you, but that is if Harden stays healthy. If I had to choose between Harden pitching 200 Innings and A-Rod getting 500AB's, I would probably still go with A-rod.
DaSchizz brought up a point about A-Rod owners playing out a strategy to get the most for A-Rod. Another strategy which would be a little more ballsy if you really believed A-Rod is not going to play thewhole year, is to hold on to him and hope that at some point during April or May he is able to put together a string of maybe 7-10 games of good production and try sell someone another manager on the belief that A-Rod is going to make it the whole year.
Yeah Harden's health is always a concern. I still think Arod is too big of a risk for me to take on. Even if he plays, if he goes through a slump he'll get shut down, maybe the PED's pressure gets to him which is likely, causing resulting in such a slump. And if some how the Yankees fall early he would get shut down for sure.
Arod for Atkins and Harden is still on the table. I'm going to come to a conclusion before the end of the day and make a decision.
So now that Arod is getting his labrum repaired he will be out 6-8 weeks. The offer of Atkins and Harden was pulled, but Atkins for Arod is still there. Should I still keep Arod and wait for his return. My backup 3B is Mike Lowell. Or trade him for Atkins and still have a solid 3B opening day?
