These generally go to 80 votes, or until the leader reaches 40. Simmer.

This one can be abbreviated a bit, but I was still going to wait til at least 30 as a general rule (though I will make an exception for Nathan, since there is little disagreement about the top 2)...

In the past 5 years, he has posted higher than a 2 ERA and 1 WHIP exactly once.

I'll take his consistent dominance all day over anyone else, including Paps.

Papelbon has posted an ERA above 2 exactly once in the 3 years he's been the closer, and has topped 1 WHIP exactly zero times. His 0.92/0.77/9.92 rates in '06 were absolutely ridiculous, and he just amped up the K's in '07 while keeping his ERA under 2, with a line of 1.85/0.77/12.96. Papelbon's BABIP took a hit in '08 due to a change in GB/FB tendencies, though, so that's something to keep an eye on.

Nathan's FIP and K/BB:
2006: 1.68/5.94
2007: 2.65/4.05
2008: 2.79/4.11

Papelbon's FIP and K/BB:
2006: 2.14/5.77
2007: 2.45/5.60
2008: 2.01/9.63 8-o

There's a good argument for Nathan but to say that it's absolutely clear-cut is a bit silly.

Uh, never said it was absolutely clear cut. I just said I preferred Nathan. My point was, they're much closer in value than often perceived.

Well if you're "baffled" you'd usually be implying that you believe the idea is ridiculous. :-?

Have had this cat for several years running. This will most likely be the first year in the last couple I will not. He will not drop as far as he had been. :,-(
